Halo 3 and FFVII: Crisis Core top the Japanese sales charts!

cooly99 | October 06, 2007 | News | Playstation Portable XBOX 360
Xbox360's newest and most famous title, Halo 3, has surged to the top of the Japanese sales charts, selling 58,672 copies in it's first week.
The 360 itself has also had a burst of popularity, selling 5,215 units in the same week as Halo 3's release. Coincidence? I think not!

In other news, the vastly popular Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core has become a major driving force in the fast selling of Playstation Portable units in Japan. Square Enix's limited edition Crisis Core PSP sold out on it's first day (only 77,777 units were made), and the game itself has sold more than 350,000 copies on it's first day and 54,000 copies this week.

It's the Xbox 360 title that has become the fastest-selling game ever in the US and already made developer Bungie a cool $300 million. It's everywhere, and it even has its own drink. It's Halo 3, of course, and even the Japanese, it seems, can't resist.

The game was released on September 27 in the region and burst straight into the Japanese charts at number one, according to figures released by Media Create for the week of September 24 to 30. Halo 3 sold 58,672 units in its first week on sale, some 3,000 more than the next best-selling title.

Media Create states that this is the first time an Xbox 360-exclusive title has entered the chart in the number one slot. The 360 itself also saw a relative spike in sales to 5,215 units--as compared to the 1,687 reported last week--no doubt another part of the Halo 3 effect.

In other news, the PlayStation Portable was on top of the hardware charts for the third week running, having sold another 102,809 units. The new PSP slim and the release of exclusive Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII have been attributed as the driving forces behind the surge in sales. In comparison, the Nintendo DS Lite sold 72,895, the Wii 24,143, the PS3 13,105, and the PS2 12,980.

I'm sick and tired of everybody posting about Halo 3 on this site... to be frank i don't care about how many sales they make in a day, i'll care (a little) after about 3 months and see how well it's doing with other games...

If one day Halo 4 comes out then they might aswell as make this site Halogrep!

Since Japan isn't too big on Xbox and Halo, that's pretty impressive.

kazooieman once again, sorry to say this, you make a fool of yourself. this flood of reports is not because the game shattered numerous records within its first day. but its also a new game, thats right 2 days under 2 weeks. the same thing happened with bioshock, not too long ago. so i'm guessing we should have called this biogrep as well in that few weeks where almost everything was big daddy this and child killing that?

also yes incidnia i agree, if you look at the map for matchmaking on the first day tokyo was blue but akiba was the most intensely bright of it.

Xbox is created by Microsoft, which is not a really big Japanese company. It is suprising that they sold this many when Nintendo is the company that gets the most sales there. Pretty cool artical thanks for it.

That's cool regarding Crisis Core. I wonder how many PSPs sold that week. They should have given statistics for that.
