Neversoft said the song was made to be "unbeatable". Eat your words, son.

Game Revolution's Nick Tan has beaten what has been billed as Guitar Hero III's hardest song, Through the Fire and Flames by Dragonforce on Expert. It's relative difficulty to the rest of the game similar to the difficulty jump for Jordan in Guitar Hero II. Tan becomes the first person in the world to have beaten the song.

His final stats? 311304, 3 Stars, 88% Notes Hit, 89 Note Streak. Bow to the man.

The First Person In The World To Beat Guitar Hero III
Posted on Friday, October 5 @ 16:23:17 Eastern by Duke_Ferris

When he's not flipping out and killing people, GR's Nick Tan likes to apply his ninja skills to Guitar Hero. He rocks so hard you simply cannot handle it. Seriously.

And the other day at a Guitar Hero III party in San Francisco, he rocked so hard Activision could not handle it. The unlockable song Through the Fire and Flames by Dragonforce is designed to be the hardest in the game, like the nearly impossible Jordan by Buckethead in Guitar Hero II. Except in this case, in the words of the developers, for GH3 they "designed this to be unbeatable, dammit!".

Never, ever say that.

After a couple run-throughs, Nick's skills had Activision so amazed they started filming him on his third attempt. And on the fourth, he beat it, in expert mode, which is the main video here.

Skeptical? If you want confirmation, here is the lead designer confirming Nick's status as the first person to have ever beaten the song.

For a close up of the brutal challenge, here's the first half. The full song is over five minutes.

Needless to say, nobody at Activision expected anyone to actually beat the game at their preview party. Here's his final scoreboard. Way to go Nick!

EDIT: Nick has written up a personal account with a lot more detail. You should check it out.

Being Asian doesn't really give you the right amount of benefits in Guitar Hero that you think it would.

Now if we were talking about Starcraft or Gunbound on the other hand ...

well they just showed us something very useful. up until now all we saw was the very beginning and the very end. this very video shows multiple double notes and triple noted chords meaning...yes of course all guitar hero fans know. we get a break in the 5th or 6th minute depending on if its the full song, to rest our hand.

Through the Fire and Flames is an extremely hard song. I've seen it on a TV and I just can't imagine something so quick. Kudos to him!

I'm annoyed that no one else really got a chance at this record. They shouldn't count it until the game releases.

Very nice indeed, but like Seproth said, it's a little unfair since Guitar Hero 3 isn't even out yet. A fair few will be able to do it once the game is released, but nonetheless an amazing job there.

Amazing. Simply amazing. Of course, since he's a Japanese kid, he's born to play videogames and rock at guitar.
