Developers are worried of making Wii games

Final Blade | October 13, 2007 | News | Wii
It seems developers are very nervous about making Wii games. Cause a Japanese newspaper states that developers are concerned its bubble is about to burst, and some think the games will not sell on the Wii.
Also the Wii sales has been falling in japan to 168,000 worst month since December 06.

Is the Wii in trouble, only time will tell. But in the mean time its not looking too good for Nintendo.
Meanwhile, others think that the Wii is only a fad and its popularity will fade. One unnamed president of a developer told Nikkei: "The Wii is like the 'Billy's Boot Camp' weight-loss program on DVD. People bought it out of curiosity, and it's likely a lot of them haven't used it".

According to Nikkei, concern is also growing in the Japanese industry after sales of Wii slowed considerably to just 168,000 units - the worst month of sales since December 2006. Now companies are "on guard for signs of a major change".

I wouldn't say it's going to burn out soon. We see a ton of these articles. Most parents who buy these for their kids don't know about the games or the lack of decent ones. They just know it's cool, their kid probably wants one, and it gets them off of the couch. If someone actually made a great Wii game, I'd buy it. I haven't put a game in my Wii in at least a few months.

Just because sales are going down doesn't mean the Wii is a fad and it will just die out. A lot of people already have Wiis, and those are the people who are going to want to buy the games.

    I see why they're worried.
Spider-man 3 on Wii was a shoddy piece of work, yet the one on PS3 and XB360 were amazing games with incredible graphics. A lot of people go for graphics, prior to peoples beliefs.

The thing is that third party games are not really taking advantage of the Wii's strongest points, so you're really stuck with Nintendo's first party games. Which is why Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc are usually the most outstanding games in every Nintendo console.

I can too, see why they're worried. I keep seeing many images of some Wii games which are terrible. Tbh, since when was it about graphics on the Wii? It's a unique console for the sole person of getting everyone together to have FUN. Sure, that might be hard if the game is very glitchy and blocky, but they're not all THAT bad.

But, I guess with all the PS3 and Xbox 360 titles flying around at the moment, could be another reason why they're worried.

It maybe just the month were no interesting games come out!

Although people in Japan might be getting bored of some of their Wii games and switching to the DS/PSP/PS3/X-Box 360...

I'm not suprised, to be fair.

Either third party games will be shunned by the Nintendo fanboys who only play the first party titles, or they'll be crap 'cos they make a hash of the controls and graphics.

The only decent third party game on the wii is Rayman, and thats a party game. Red Steel was severly mediocre becuase of its lack of polish. Not to mention when a game is mutli-platform like Transformers, the motion sensing controls are usually very tacked on and the game gets beat with teh ugly stick too boot. If third party developers make the game specifically for the wii, it could be a good game but they just have to be creative about it. The wii has alot of potential and the 3rd party developers are letting it go to waste.

I don't think the Wii's gonna stop selling. I think they must get a boost in sales around Christmas time right?

Well, if the developers would realize that not everything on the Wii has to use motion control, they would have no trouble getting their games to sell on the Wii. Or if maybe the people behind porting Two Thrones to the Wii in the form of Rival Swords hadn't cut out all of the blood and gore and had they tweaked the motion control a bit, it could have sold a lot more.

They said the same thing about a year ago when the Wii was released. Cross-platorm games for the Wii will most definitely suck. Developers just aren't going to spend the time to make an awesome game different from the other platforms, but then again the ones that span all of the consoles usually suck anyway...
