Xbox 360 price cut planned for Nov 1

ITANI | October 22, 2007 | News | XBOX 360
The Xbox 360 is getting a official price cut in Japan. Following the announcement that Sony made earlier this month, Microsoft will cut the 360's price by 13 percent, making the consoles price at a very low £149. In Japanese currency that is 34,800 yen. This official price cut will take place on November 1st, while Sony's Playstation 3's price cut in Japan will take place on the 11th November.

According to Famitsu's publisher Enterbain, the following statistics show how many units each console has sold in it's first half of 2007. Xbox 360 has sold a very low 122,565 units, while the Playstation 3 has sold 503,334 and last but not least the Wii has sold 1.78 million.
Microsoft has revealed it will cut the price of Xbox 360 by 13 percent in Japan to 34,800 yen (£149) from Nov 1.

Wow, seems like a big price change. You would think that the Xbox would be doing great at it's original price.

Well seeing as Japs like to use Jap made stuff they never really gave Microsoft much of a chance, being an American company. They do ship over there, but it's very unpopular.

It's not so much that it's an American product (though that is part of the reason) it's also due to the fact that the majority 360's games really don't interest them much.

There's a number of factors. It's not that Japan isn't open to our games, it's just they aren't the right type. It's not that they hate our machines, it's just they don't offer the right software and are generally too large. Microsoft isn't unpopular, just shy and bashful.

I agree. It's quite suprising, seems like a good price change to me, imo.

Can't say this surprises me, i mean MS always counters Sony's move. Unfortunately i can't see the price cut for MS to work that great in Japan.

The Japanese have never been big fans of the XBox, or the 360, so I can't see this making that much of a difference.

    Wish I could've paid £149 for my 360.

Of course it has to be in Japan. I don't even have a 360 and I kind of want one but not really with it's price. If it was only changed to $149 here in the u.s.a...

It's as low as it needs to be. Would people like for it to be lower? Yeah. Just doesn't need to happen. At this point in time, the current price is relatively perfect. It's not too terribly high, and it's two months until Christmas. Within the time frame from November until mid-December, sales increase for a lot of products.

Coupled with that, Early-Mid '08 is a big time for Sony in terms of their software. MGS4 anyone? Enough to make me convert, almost.
