The reason to why Brawl was delayed is because many people were complaining about how all the games are being released during the holiday season. Plus just before you think Nintendo is scared to release this holiday season beacuse of another game think again. Nintendo says that a hit will always be a hit no matter what time of year. What also contributed to the delay is to polish the game up a little bit more as the Japanese's public are hoping for a perfect game and that's what Nintendo is hoping to give them.

Speaking to Stephen Totilo of the MTV Multiplayer blog (via Joystiq), Kaplan said the following about the new February 10, 2008 release date:

Wow... that's it? Sure, a polished-up game would help, but... another two months to wait, that seems like forever.

I'd rather wait longer if it meant a better game. And it actually makes sense to me why Nintendo delayed it. I think that there are a lot of other games to buy so selling the game at an "off" time would be good for sales because there is less competition.

Yeah, it seems like it's eight months instead of four.

that's a great excuse. I don't buy it for a second, but a great excuse. The holiday season is a major marketing season for a reason

A hit will always be a hit, I agree. However, one person can only buy but so many games at any given time, at least the average person. With this holiday season, especially next month, overflowing with games, I don't believe any one game in particular is going to sell as much as it would if it were released in an 'empty' time of the year. Nintendo knows the hype around SSMB and Mario Galaxy, so if they were confident in the game, why not put them up against everything else. Its not like most Wii owners care about Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Kane & Lynch, Splinter Cell, Street Fighter HD, or Halo 3 anyway.

I have to agree to a certain level. I, a loyal (but rational) fan of the Wii, have almost no interest in the games you listed. So I couldn't imagine my money going to one of them as opposed to SSBM. But I'm sure there are plenty of other Wii owners that are interested in those games. After all, its not like everyone has one system to supply with games.

If I were to make a guess, I'd say there were some complaints over the number of highly anticipated titles hitting this X-Mas on the Wii- though I bet a lot of the complainers will regret it after this.

But I have to wonder... What fool says 'Wait a minute! There are too many good games coming out in the next few months! Somebody lower my choices!' Heh...

I own/plan to own at least 5 of those 8 games and I'm a Wii owner.

Like I said, most Wii owners don't care about those games, because most of that crowd isn't a part of the same target audience. My whole point is that Nintendo historically takes this stand that they are not in direct competition with Sony/Microsoft and they offer a different gaming perspective. If so, why not put your game out and live with it. What other big Wii titles are crowding the shelves this season besides Mario Galaxy? If you don't understand what I'm getting at, I don't believe Nintendo's reasoning for the delay.

If there's one thing I just learned now it's that the Japanese public has WAY too much say in what Nintendo does. They seem like the only people Nintendo even listens to.

That sounds about right considering the fact that the Japanese are Nintendo's main market.

even though the Wii is selling more units in the states.

Pff, "polished" or not they are still just making excuses. If they release it during the holiday season then peopel will buy it. Then they are screwed lol.

Forget 'polish'ing it, I want to play it!

They get you all hyped and then hold it in the studios so they can makes sure we don't find the glitches... that's lame. Why withdraw it after everyone loved it up at EFA?

The game looks great already and I don't really agree with the delay, but oh well. As long as they take the time to polish it up.

Evanster, that comment shows you know nothing. Its not like it won't sell because it is coming out in February. It still definitely will. They aren't "screwed." No point in saying something stupid like that.

Im still waiting for a perfect game and that hasn't happen yet. There is no such thing as perfect game, you can get close to perfect but seriously not a perfect game.

Halo 3 wasn't perfect but it sold lots, God of War 1 and 2 wasn't perfect and it sold lots. Stop living in a fantasy world Japan, Just be happy with the game as is. But i can understanding polishing the game so there is no bugs and stuff.

You make a very good point, but Nintendo probably want to do this just to see if it can be done. I heard of a car company that did that with a car.

It wouldn't surprise me given how Brawl brings together Nintendo's most loved character and some big third Party Ones. We all know how much Nintendo loves there big characters, if they did try for such a game, this would be it.

Hmm, I kind of agree here. As much as I really want to purchase my own copy of this game, I'd rather it not be rushed. I noticed a lot of big hits coming out this season, so it's only natural to delay this... to save the best till last ;D

I would like to know when it will come out, that way i can determine if i will be able to grab a hold of more money for the game if i buy other games. I can't wait for the game and I love Nintendo, but if all the games i want keep getting delayed i may go elsewhere

It's January 24th in Japan, February 10th in America, and God only knows when in the PAL regions.

The delay, I would normally class as "Understandable but not excusable". However, SSBB's gonna be damn awesome regardless, and if Nintendo (Or Sora, I should say) want to try for perfection with SSBB, then I'm happy for that to happen. It just means a perfect game to put in my Wii when it DOES come out.

In the end it won't be perfect, and thats fact.

        True. Games can't be perfect.

There's always gonna be more options needed, better graphics and framerate, more items, longer stories, etc. Games can be amazingly spectacularly good, but perfect is impossible.
