There is no comparison to the hype between the Orange Box and Halo 3. Everyone knew that Halo 3 was upon us. We all saw the Halo 3 commercials on TV, all the news reports, blog posts. But on the back burner with not as much advertising was Valve's Orange Box.

Next Gen have come up with some sales positions for sales in the US. You might have expected Halo 3 to be at the top at that list but with Valve giving a 20% price cut to the Orange Box sales have sprung it ahead to take the #1 spot for now.

Yeah but orange box was also out on the PC, so that's unfair.

Besides that, I don't think this is total sales Tek, this is just based on this past week or so.

    tekmosis Oct 24, 07
hmm, quite possible. Next Gen never went into much details on the positioning.

Always was and always will be.

      Tenken Oct 24, 07
Personally, I've always though Half Life was shit. But, that's personal opinion.

Just like what what you said.

Half-Life is definitely better, I just really doubt Orange Box has sold more copies than Halo 3.

        Tenken Oct 24, 07
No. It's not. It's a matter of opinion. Some like Half Life, personally, I think it's the most overrated piece of shit out there.

          DEZVOUS Oct 24, 07
No, actually Half-Life is definitely better than Halo. You can think that it's an overrated piece of shit, but it's still better. See how it doesn't change anything? Just means you prefer a more shitty game.

          I agree with Tenken.
That's your opinion, which you're entitled to-- But it's not fact.

          Overrated yet never really promoted.

Yeah I forgot those 100,000 commercials I was bombarded with on TV going "LETS FINISH THE FIGHT" and the thousands upon thousands camping out at night to get a copy in their Gordan Freeman masks and crowbars.

          Oh wait. That never happened.

If you're going to ramble incoherently then at least try to make some shred of sense.

Stomping your feet and crying that the product that is currently taking the thunder away from your game is garbage and is completely pathetic.

I couldn't agree more. Dezvous and Finalblade. Get a dictionary find out the difference between an opinion and a fact.

I have to agree with DEZVOUS. Half-Life set a landmark when it came to FPS gaming. Halo, not so much. When you think of FPS games that made an impact on the industry you think of games like Doom, Quake, Half-Life, etc. Halo doesn't come to my mind.

          Ekou Oct 25, 07
What landmark did Half Life set? People constantly say that, but fail to really point it out. Physics? Understandable, ground-breaking in terms of what can be done in a game. It just doesn't stand out.

Good, gaming is returning to normality. Great games sell better than good ones.

Why? 360 gets a super deal here, they have Halo 3 and Orange Box both on the 360.

You did forget Orange box is also for PS3

No I didn't forget, but that's completely irrelevant since it's not even out yet.

    Unity Oct 24, 07
I don't think you noticed, but the Orange Bow pwns Halo, especially on multi-playability.
    • 1
      Tenken Oct 24, 07
Really? How? Half Life 2? Most have already played it that will get the Orange Box. Team Fortress 2 isn't appealing unless you want multiplayer. Portal is apparently short seeing as how some have beat it in 4 hours or less. And episodes 1 and 2 assume that people actually care about the story.
      • 3
        VeGiTAX2 Oct 25, 07
        Lets go through this.

        - A multiplayer game isn't appealing unless you want multiplayer. That's a really profound statement, it's deep, you should consider writing a book about it.

        - Portal is short. Wow, but is the gameplay good? Is it probably one of the most rewarding single player experiences in shooters for quite some time? Yeah. It is. Get over the fact that you're missing out.

        - Episodes 1 and 2 assume people care about the story. oh my god. Who would ever play an FPS for the story especially a title that helped develop the idea of directed story gameplay in an FPS, yet you're quick to try and back Halo, a title that everyone always goes on about for the "story" involved. Way to toss away your sad attempt at a point.

Honestly, stop being such a pathetic fanboy, it's painful to watch you.
        • 2
          DEZVOUS Oct 25, 07
Indeed, Vegi's right. I would gladly pay 60 dollars just for portal which I've completed in 3 hours on my second time through rather than pay 60 dollars for some of the other games out there.

          It is that good.

Why do you have to assume that people care about the story to play Episodes 1 and 2? The gameplay kicks more ass in Episode 2 than in HL2 itself probably. Some epic moments.

          Ekou Oct 25, 07
Honestly, it's hardly being a fanboy. I(Yeah, Tenken here) hardly play Halo. Haven't played Halo in well over a week. The point is, not everyone likes Half Life. Just the same, not everyone likes Halo. The point is, I've stated my OPINION.

I hate Half Life. That's my opinion. I hate Halo, just not as much. As far as my comments, yeah, multiplayer is just a bonus in some games. Never said Portal didn't have good gameplay, just that it could be pretty short. I played Portal the other day on PC, loved it(possibly the only thing I liked from the OB).

The story part is in relation to just about every shooter out there. No one really cares about the story by itself. The story, in any game, is irrelevant when compared to the gameplay and emotion brought about actions taken within the game.

          VeGiTAX2 Oct 26, 07
Hardly playing a game = not playing for a week? I doubt it, I'd call my progress in The Darkness hardly playing since I haven't been able to touch it for well over a month and a half. It's shameful on top of that.

In that regard, I hardly play = haven't really done it in around or over a week is absolutely garbage.

The problem with opinion is that if you drop it once, thats fine, but if you go bantering trying to belittle a game in many postings, then you're not dropping opinion, you're trolling for another game that you prefer. That's all your behavior was / is. It's not opinion, it's fact and a sad one at that.

You can't claim emotion as an existence outside of a story, a story is directed by gameplay choices (AI, Enemy behavior, enemy scripting, goals / objectives), dialogue scripting, visuals, etc. Otherwise you'd be in a giant primary colored grid with a giant blob shooting color at other giant squares in a single level, never ending battle until you decided to quit the game.

Aside from the attempt to represent everyone, which btw you are not. You seem to be implying that gamers only wish to play in such a realm as that seeing as gameplay and emotion are derived from a story. The reality is, you don't take actions in a game, you complete goals with pre-determined outcomes by the developer, things that were already scripted into the story to help you reach the pre-determined goal they wished you to experience so that you could have that happy feel good moment they designed and wrote for you.

Team Fortress 2 FTW! Half Life is the best FPS game ever created and the episodes being released every now and then is an awesome idea. Also the Source engine is pretty old now but it's actually still considered to showcase pretty decent graphics, probably better than Halo 3 also. Half Life 2 was the first game to use the Source engine and that game was released in 2003-2004.

Apparently Tenken is the least ignorant one here...
Let's look at the facts: Halo 3 = 1 game, Orange Box = 5 games. Not too hard to see the difference there. Besides, I highly doubt that this is the total sales as opposed to a weekly sale.

And DEZVOUS, just because you say Half-Life is better than Halo, doesn't mean it is. I could say Barbie Horse Adventures is better than Half-Life, but that doesn't mean it is. Look up the word 'opinion' in the dictionary, and you'll see what I'm running on about.

Halo is the most overpriced multiplayer add-on ever released. Team Fortress 2 is leagues over what Halo 3 offers. Cancel out the Half-Life games and Portal and you still have something better than Halo.

Nobody played Halo 3 for the story anyway.

        Ekou Oct 25, 07
Oh really? So the multitude of angry fans wanting to "Finish the Fight" weren't crying out for the story, but the multiplayer?

        You would be surprised...

But I played for the story...I haven't touched multi-player...check my gamertag if you don't believe me.

Exactly. Rarely is anything ever a "fact" when it comes to video games. It is merely just an OPINION.

Wow. It's hilarious how any post with a shred of sense and nonfanboyism gets an automatic thumbs down. Including the post (3 above mine)that merely says that people have opinions.
And all the thumbs downs I'm about get will only prove my point.

Let's all argue about what impacts FPS gaming and what doesn't. It's really cool.

This is a huge surprise, though. I thought the release of Halo 3 was supposed to be the second coming of Christ or something.

It's not outselling Halo on the xbox if you look at the source, it's only when you count the PC as well, go down to the 360 top 10 and Halo is still winning. I'm done playing Halo for now, COD4 is about a week and a half away. I might rent the orange box until then
