EGM Rumor: Halo MMO in the works

kingjfs | October 24, 2007 | Rumor | XBOX 360
The Rumor Mill report in the December 2007 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly has a juicy Halo-related tidbit. According to the Q-Man, Microsoft is hard at work on a Massively Multiplayer Online game based in the Halo universe. There is also speculation this is connected to the Peter Jackson Halo project that was announced at X06.

WAIT A MINUTES... are you telling me that Halo 3 wasn't Multiplayer only, and it actually had an offline mode that you can play Wow I would never have known...

Perhaps a gentle tug to pull your head out of your ass would solve this problem.

Haha. I think this would be like PlanetSide, only successful.

If you've playued Halo before, you probably have Live and an Xbox, which completely defeats the purpose of an MMO.

If this MMO got off the ground, I'd be surprised.

      Why?

I'm not sure they could pull this off. And I probably won't buy it if it does. Not too into MMO's. Still interesting though.

Eh. We don't need it. Halo is meant for FPS and RTS, not MMO.

The only way Halo could work like a MMO was if it was a MMOFPS that focused on a varied weapon list with choices between free-for-all and team-based games.

    Oh wait ...

So basically Halo, except with a shitload more players shooting each other at once?

    Could care less.

Ditto to that. After Halo Wars, the series needs to end.

Yeah, thats not how this would work...

It'd probably be like Tabula Rasa. Except in the Halo universe of course.

Yeah. Halo has existed since the dawn of the Xbox; it's about time the series came to a close.

How can you all be so tough on one of the most brilliant Producers in the market today? Bungie has delivered on so many occasions, yet there are still haters out there who state their biased opinions as facts. Makes me wonder if any of you have even played an MMO OR Halo... The FACT is that Halo was revolutionary and set the standards for a lot of the FPS games you play now. Plus, if HaloMMO IS launched it will likely take a large populous of players from other games. So let's stop being so critical and take a second to stop and think what kind of quality Bungie has become notorious for in the last few years.

Halo wasn't revolutionary. It didn't do a single new thing. It just did things well. It really did usher in using vehicles in FPS though. Not that it hadn't been done before Perfect Dark did it in the 90's. But it showed it could be a big part of the game.
