Call of Duty Black Ops Voted ‘Best Game Ending’ Of All Time
15 hours 36 mins ago
Ex-Harmonix employee and Playstation 3 developer, Jason Booth, recently voiced his opinion on the Playstation 3 console ... and it wasn't all nice!
He didn't leave anything untouched, commenting on the PS3's hardware, low sales, as well as the low-quality ports from other consoles.
Former Harmonix employee and one-time PlayStation 3 developer Jason Booth has posted a harsh evaluation of Sony's latest console, refuting claims that PS3 developers are "lazy"resulting in ports of Xbox 360 games that often perform worse than the originaland attempting to "explain exactly why ports to the ps3 will never be as good as their 360 counter parts, and why most ps3 exclusives will likely continue to suck." Oh, boy, this should be good. Booth does his best to pick apart what seem like hardware advantages, mainly the Cell and Blu-ray, and how they may wind up being nothing but hindrances.
He echoes Gabe Newell's assessment of the PlayStation 3 hardware at certain points, writing that "code needed to make the PS3 work is most likely only useful to you on the PS3" and that the reasons for dedicating the effort to optimizing the hardware are dwindling. He means the fact that PS3 sales are in the basement.
Booth later writes that "Sony let their hardware be designed by a comity [sic] of business interests", dooming it to third place in the current generation forever.
As merely a consumer, not a developer, it's certainly difficult to disagree that the current third-party offerings on the PlayStation 3 are disheartening. Games perform worse, they're often delayed and they are often devoid of features their predecessors or Xbox 360 counterparts ship with.

Also, I think you'll find that the PS3 is doing just as well, if not better, than the 360 did during its first 11 or so months, its only real advance being that it came out a year beforehand.
... Notice how its always the Ex-Developers that start mouthing off at consoles as well ...
*bleep*ing pathetic.
"code needed to make the PS3 work is most likely only useful to you on the PS3"
That's the idea, this is clearly coming from a developer who does a lot of multiplatform titles and just wants to cash in rather than create a really excellent game that is designed for a certain set of hardware.
No one can refute the fact that the exclusive titles are undoubtedly the best for a specific console. There are great multiplatform titles as well for sure, but it's a fact that exclusive titles benefit from a higher level of polish and focus on delivering a unique experience.
But back to topic. He's pretty much saying what people were saying before the 360 and PS3 released. PS3's kinda gonna be a bitch to program for. Why would this have changed now? This dude is probably just frustrated with problems that porting to PS3 presents.
Exclusives are a different story though. A lot of them have been lack-luster up til' now. Even ones that were supposed to be big hits like LAIR but I do believe MGS4 will change that. Drake's Fortune still has everything to prove though.
Actually some developers (like the ones that made GRAW2) are saying pretty much otherwise, how it's NOT difficult at all. And you'll really have to take their word for it, cuz GRAW2 is STILL an amazing piece of work, no matter what reviewers wanna nit pick with it (colors and all that bullshit is really all they can pick).
I guess if you're going to talk about accomplishments you would probably want to stick to games / companies not relying on engines that have been developed for mass licensing.
Honestly I'm a lil tired of it. PS3 fanboys will continue to defend the PS3 even though they may be wrong. 360 fanboys will do the exact samn damn thing. Anyone in the middle who has an unbiased opinion gets squashed cause it's not in league with the fanboys.
Anyway, I can see a lil bit of what this guy is trying to say, but I don't think it's gonna be too bad after the usual multi-platform companies get a grip on the PS3. Personally I'm still not a fan of the PS3 due to the bloody high price for getting a good deal.
Yes we all know its a little difficult to program on the PS3 but the people who actually work on the system claims that its not all that hard.
Maybe the concept of working and trying has been lost in the sauce for awhile.
Hell most if not all of the PS systems wasn't cake walk to make games and two out of 4 has won top in the "war", things take time to understand. Stop complaining. Man he's acting like a small child.
