Sony and Capcom have announced that they will be working on a Biohazard movie. The movie will be a CGI movie and not live action and could see a 2008 release. The movie is called Biohazard: Degeneration and will be based off the video game, but most of the people in the west will know the game as Resident Evil.

Taking a page from Square Enix's successful release of "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" a couple of years back, Capcom and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced plans to release their own full-length CGI movie based on the hit Resident Evil (a.k.a. Biohazard in Japan) franchise.

The movie will be titled "Biohazard: Degeneration", and will be the first full-length CG animation movie feature based on the popular video game series of games and movies.

Many will recognize Resident Evil for establishing the survival horror game genre and its many successful titles across multiple platforms since it was first released in 1996. The latest iteration to the series, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, marks the continuation of the video game franchise and shows no sign of stopping any time soon.

Following a successful spin-off on the silver screen, the trilogy of films produced and directed by Paul Anderson was well received by movie and video game buffs everywhere, with each movie grossing over US$ 100 million at the international box office. With Sony's and Capcom's announcement of this newest offspring for the series, fans of Resident Evil will definitely be watching out for this latest cinematic experience.

No news on the characters or its plot in the complicated timeline of the Resident Evil series have been announced, but we're keeping our eyes open for any new developments from the two companies. Biohazard: Degeneration is currently in production and set to be released in 2008.

Very good idea, guys. Perfect stuff, if they make it as creepy as the first 3D Biohazard movie, I can see myself buying this...to hell with the Hollywood movies.

What first 3d Biohazard movie? Are you talking about that CG fan movie that was made and everyone thought it was official and what not?

4D Executer is the one I mean. Whether it was official or not, it was still a sweetass movie, albeit a short one.

*bleep* yes! Advent Children kicked ass and if this movie has the same level of detail and polish it will only kick even more ass. Jill in 1080p ftw.

Also, they should stick with the movie title Biohazard even for here in the states. Biohazard is so much of a cooler name than Resident Evil and I've been a fan since the beginning.

Oh ok, Sony is good enough for funding Capcom movies, but not their games. This should be good though.

Sony Pictures Entertainment and the games division are two very separate entities of Sony.

It's always a good idea whn the actual gaming company makes a game-based movie.
They know how everything should be.
And they don't have the same problems that Hollywood has.

Are you being sarcastic. But still you know Capcom has been bad-mouthing Sony for months now, this seems weird.

Sony Pictures/Columbia is not SCE. Why in the hell would you expect Microsoft to have anything at all, whatsoever to do with a movie?

I've never really got into the resident evil games so I'm not that bothered about watching the film. But I am glad that Capcom and Sony are getting along.

    *sets up a card table*

OK, so, everyone place your bets...Who bets this is never heard about (official statement) again? Odds are 5:1 *some people pile money on the table*

OK, now takers for the "we've decide it to put it on hold indefinately for now" statement, and we don't hear about it again? Odds are 3:1 *more people pile money on the table*

OK, who bets it will be delayed repeatedly, but eventually pulls through? Odds are 2:1 *mounds of money are piled on the table*

Lastly, who bets this will be a major box office success (several hundred million gross domestic and international)? Odds are 2:1...*a number of people put money on the table*

OK, all bets are closed, please wait until the movie come out (or 10 years)

*runs off with a giant mound of money*

I can't understand what would be so hard to understand, but...

Who said anything about the DS
