Japan Getting New Model PS2 for Christmas (plus a new PSP color)

Gothic Girl | November 06, 2007 | News | Playstation 2 Playstation Portable
Sony seems to be releasing different versions of their consoles left, right and center. And surprisingly the Playstation 2 has been no different.
Sony recently announced that a brand new model of the Playstation 2 console will be released just in time for Christmas in Japan.

Also, a new "deep red" PSP will be released this December as well.
Sony will release a redesigned PlayStation 2 in Japan later this month featuring an integrated power supply and cosmetic changes. A Deep Red PSP will also launch in December.

Released on November 22, SCEJ says the new model, while the same size as the current PS2, will be lighter due to a design overhaul, and will feature an in-built AC adaptator.

It will be available in Charcoal Black, Ceramic White and Satin Silver for 16,000 yen, the same price as the existing model, meaning a PS2 price cut is unlikely this year.

A new stand peripheral will also retail for 1,500 yen.

SCEJ also announced the imminent release of two new limited edition PSP packs. The PSPs in question will be Deep Red in color, and will launch December 13 in two value packs, each bundled with varying peripherals and retailing for 22,800 yen and 29,800 yen respectively.

I fail to see the point of a new PS2.
Sony might as well just thrown some money away.

No way, the PS2 still sells good, and if you happen to have one, you'd know how cool it would be to have a lighter PS2 and with no external AC adapter getting in the way.

Stop being a fool. The new PS2 will have cheaper better materials, no external adapter, and best of all its only going to be $99.
Hell i bet there are kids today who doesn't even own a PS2 let alone a ps3, this is a good move. Making it more cheaper and better more kids will be able to afford it. Thus allowing them to increase money, after all everyone even me still plays with PS2 games, even though i have a PS3.

I actually want to see some pic's of the red PSP.

EDIT: The PSP in red looks cool, i just wished the PS3 came in red or blue to the public

The PS2 Slim is already nice, small, and sleek.
Don't think they should be throwing a great deal of money at this.

Maybe it's about time I get a PS2. I've had a PS1 for years and there are some RPGs on the PS2 I wanted to play.
