Confessions of a gamestop supervisor

huntyr | November 06, 2007 | News | Company
A shift supervisor defends gamestop's policies and reveals some old/unknown policies.

The best part, he tries to defend pestering customers to reserve games because, apparently gamestop measures performance on the # of pre-orders an employee makes, not how helpful he/she is.
quote

Nearly any employee is the sum of their reserves, and unfortunately good people who treat customers well will see their job fade away because of poor numbers. A Gamestop worker pushing a reserve on you is trying to keep their job, literally
1 ) First off, the biggest thing, the 'opened new games' issue. While I admit the practice is messy, I can't stress this enough; to remain a browsable, accessible small shop, 'gutting' a single copy is essentially unavoidable. As many UK commenters on such articles tend to point out, all small game shops over there have done this for years and they don't expect otherwise.

2) If there is anything justifiably wrong with the condition of the disc, ask about a shopworn discount; this used to be a regular (but not advertised) option that was recently taken out of our systems, giving 10% off a product that is in poorer shape than it ought be

Regardless if the peripheral you're buying is new or used, NEVER go third-party unless they are extremely well-known and reputable for what they put out. Hori is a good example of this.

I wonder if this will change people from hating gamestop employee's who always badger them into pitying them =)

Haha, that actually made me take pity on GameStop employees. >.< When they ask me to reserve a game, as long as it's one I know I'm going to eventually buy, I'll reserve it; unless if the employee is a total dick, or something. In that case, I won't reserve it, just out of spite. XD

I knew about the employee performance based on how many reserved games they get people to pre-order because my friend use to work at Gamestop.

He said he hated the job because little kids would come in and bug him about when the new Pokemon game would come out. lol
