Mark Rein, Epic's Vice President, in an interview with Pro-G, talked about Unreal Tournament 3. He says he is proud of the way the PS3 game is turning out, though it isn't quite finished yet. He also stated that making video games is hard, especially on new hardware, but says the PS3 wasn't any more of a challenge than any other new piece of hardware ever was after it launched.

Speaking in an interview with Pro-G at the launch of the PC version of the game, Rein said that he was "really proud" of the PS3 game, which he hoped would be out in the US this year. However, due to certification issues he remained sceptical about a similar release date for the European version, instead suggesting early 2008.

He said: "People are going to be pleasantly surprised. It's a really high end experience that pushes the graphics bar up even higher than Gears of War. There's more polygons, there's more stuff going on, there's more explosions and there's more things happening, so we're just really pleased with the way the game runs on the PS3."

    And?
Gameplay is much more important than graphics.
If the gameplay on the 360 was different from the PS3 then I would be annoyed.

It's Unreal Tournament. Of course the gameplay will own.

The gameplay will potentially be better on the PS3 UT3 compared to the 360 too.

        Why you ask?
Mouse and keyboard support, all the maps and features of the 360 version PLUS custom content created on PCs like custom maps etc.

Uh, I think the proper comparison would be itself versus itself on another system.

Not necessarily. Gears came out at the same time period as UT3 will on PS3.

UGH. Is that picture on the bottom left IN GAME?

I don't believe they use CGI, so anything you see would be the same as in game/real time. Why would you say ugh anyway, as if that screen is bad?

Anyway, I hope Rein isn't just hyping this up. I don't expect him to be doing such, but I've been waiting a LONG time for this game and I hope it gets done within the next few weeks.

Sweet, now compare it to UT3 on the 360 and PC as well.

FTA: "Rein said that there is "something special" about playing UT3 on the PS3, and that while the speed of the game has been reduced by about 20%, "it feels just right to be playing it with a controller"."

I'm not pleased that they capped the speed, not just from a "it doesn't run in proper form" standpoint, but also from a "UT is meant to be hand breaking speed blister paced in most cases" point.

Hopefully it's just a temporary thing and they bring it to full speed in a later patch.

Before someone comes up going on about just accepting it, I'm not going to, I've played the same speed insanity since the first UT and I plan to keep doing it that way.

The only reason I don't mind is because I've never been a fan of controllers for FPS games. I'll probably end up playing it with a Keyboard/mouse.

Actually, I feel the same way, Vegita. 20% is a large amount. I hope the speed wasn't dropped just because of the controller. People would either just have to use a keyboard and mouse (everyone has a computer) or simply get used to the speed. UT has always been about shoot first, ask questions never. What I have to question now, is how this will affect playing against someone on a PC, if that feature is even still being implemented.

I'm thinking the speed was axed by the controller really, UT3 / 2007 has a faster pace and chances are the sticks aren't able to cut it and they probably still wont on the 360. GoW is a lot slower compared to UT.

I guess this kinda nukes the purpose of the keyboard and mouse on the game then. If you're axing the speed then whats the point of the additional precision.

Lame, they better patch this up if they plan to even remotely offer anything cross platform. Even custom maps will feel different running at a slower pace.

    No surprise there.

Not only that, but I don't care. Recently, the looks of games have been quite deceiving, leaving the game play lacking, and visa-versa. I was quite surprised when I played Manhunt 2 and the graphics lacked, but the game play was nice and flowed decently. I think developers should focus more on that now.

Did you really need to ask that. Its apparent he hasn't, that statement there just proves he hasn't.

If they lowered the speed, and it's to please the controller users, then it most likely pleases a good chunk of PS3 users. Anyone that disagrees should just stick with the PC version, it's not that hard of a choice, folks.

UT is about speed though. It's about doing that mid-air wall dodge while furiously firing your flak cannon, or rocket launcer. It's 10x the speed of Halo! They even have a speed combo to make it even faster! IT RELIES ON SPEED!

    GRAGH!

(I hope they keep the vehicles)

What you fail to realize is that the controllers aren't made for FPS, computers were. Thats why most say PC is better than the actual controller, and this even proves it. They only decreased the speed of the consoles to benefit the console users, cause i bet most can't handle the speed. I don't mind really cause i know the gameplay and graphics will rock.
