Chaos Swordsman | November 16, 2007 | News | Misc
...I'm not sure I even want to know what's going on in the police department's head these days. Dutch police officers are planning to arrest five teenagers for stealing virtual furniture on Habbo Hotel because they estimated the value at $1400 USD.
Here’s how you know your local police force has too much time on its hands:

According to the Telegraph, cops in Amsterdam are planning to arrest five teens for stealing virtual furniture from other players rooms in Habbo Hotel, a popular online game slash social networking site.

The investigators believe the Habbo bust represents a first in online law enforcement.

There are times when you wish your cops really did sit around eating donuts and scratching themselves instead of doing their jobs. Heh...

Rubbish. They didn't "steal" the virtual furniture, they hacked into the Habbo Hotel system. Hacking is illegal and therefore punishable by law just how breaking and entering would be.

I find this rather ridiculous. The virtual police should be dealing with this.

One of the most hopeless things I have ever heard. Bloody stupid in my opinion. And whoever wastes $1,400 on something like Habbo needs a life.

Whoever said all cops are sane must be drunk ( this isn't towards anyone here) Its just funny how can you go to jail for stealing fake stuff, if its virtual than its not real yes, then no need for real cops.

It is crime at the end of the day and as funny as it sounds, kids go on habbo daily and spend real money on items which they think are worth the money, any form of theft in a game that is using a real money system is a criminal offense, this act luckily is easy to punish due to the way these sites are run, aslong as the kids that were affected kept the fraudulent users online names, they can be tracked down... Just because the offense was commited in a game does not make it any less serious, if this was second life and it was some paedophilia case everyone would be saying "arrest the bitch" this is no different and its just as bad, its people benefitting off naive and young children.

Didn't really think of it that way, i get what your saying and agree. I just think the sites mods should take care of it not cops.
