With the recent release of Super Mario Galaxy, Gametrailers decided to put the game to the test ... and compare it to the previous Gamecube Mario platformer, Super Mario Sunshine. So how does Galaxy stack up? It's safe to say that the game at least looks and sounds better than Sunshine.

Does the Wii really outmuscle the GameCube? We put it to the test.

    I can't truly rate, because I don't have SMG. I know Sunshine was a great game, but Galaxy looks better. (I have a Wii, but I just got it; that means I'm wiped out of my cash, and need to wait till Christmas for any more games, accesories, etc.

    So I'd like to point out that SMG beats Sunshine by a longshot?

    Sunshine never really hit it to me as the next 3D multi-surrounding Mario game to me. Spray things with a pump to get... w... what? Sunshines? What the Hell happened to the classic Stars?

    And look at that, chad and protoman rated thumbs down on both my posts. How mature and manly. I actually posted my opinion, non-insultingly, on this second post I made.

      i think they were called shine sprites, but because i liked that so much, they shall now be known as sunshines.

      Anyways, I liked Sunshine a ton but really haven't played SMG. However, I'm confused as to why everyone hates SMS so much o_0

        Sunshine was lame. FLUDD was lame.

        Sunshine shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as SM64.

      Ditto with Neto.
      Mario 64 >>>>> Sunshine.

      I'm looking forward to playing Galaxy. I've been waiting since Mario 64 for another great Mario-platforming experience.

    galaxy may be better sound and graphics, but remember, its on better hardware. compared as needed to their respective systems, id say theyre near equal. although, sunshine didnt really follow traditions set by previous mario installments, so some frown upon that.

    *applauds*

    Wow done Nintendo for making a game harder from its predecessors. Incredible that. ¬¬

      Super Mario games stopped being difficult since Mario 64, mate.

    Oh noez, a next gen game looks better than a past gen game?

    Either way, it still lacks decent anti aliasing. >_>

    Is there really any need for a comparison?

    I never really liked Sunshine to be honest. I found Super Mario Galaxy to be better by a long shot.

    Galaxy is definitely better in graphics and such, but I still prefer Sunshine's gameplay and difficulty.

    64 = Difficulty
    Sunshine = Balance
    Galaxy = Gameplay and Graphics

    I liked Sunshine, but that's just me. Galaxy brings me back to the N64 Mario, though, so can't complain. Galaxy lookes more improved than Sunshine, however slightly.

    haven't played it. but, seeing as i've played a mario game at some point in my life, i know exactly what it's about, what it sounds like, what it looks like, and how it plays.

    sunshine was lame, tbh

    this one looks multiple times better than sunshine

    Galaxy definitely looks better, not by massive amounts but the textures and lighting are definitely improved, at the end of the day the wii isn't supposed to be a graphical power house anyway and nintendo never said it was.

    Although Galaxy may have better plot-line, graphics as well as beautiful cinematics, something about Sunshine will always appeal to me.
