Sony reveals officialy extended Battery Life kit for PSP and PSP slim

Guticb | November 27, 2007 | News | Playstation Portable
Sony has announced a battery for the PSP slim that will extend battery life by 80%. It will also come with a battery cover, as it is slightly bigger than a standard PSP Slim battery.
You asked for it ... and now you got it! The PSP Extended Life Battery Kit will work on both the old and new PSP-1000 and PSP-2000 models. This 2200mAh battery will offer 20% more battery life on the older models, and 80% more life on the new slim line. This battery will bulge out slightly on the slimmer PSP systems, so new battery covers will be included. However, those with Star Wars Ceramic White systems are out of luck: doesn't appear a new battery cover is being made for that particular model.

There's no official MSRP and release date yet, but we'll update the post when we get the news.

Interesting. I was debating either getting a new PSP for Christmas, or a PS3 [which might have to wait for a while].

Certainly a good move. Is there a price anywhere?

Edit: Nah, just looked on the source.

Misleading Title "Sony reveals officialy extended Battery Life kit for PSP and PSP slim" Then this should be for both PSP systems yes.

It works in both, BUT there's only a substantial increase in battery life on the Slim. The PSP fat has batteries that are much more effective than this one, therefore this one was made specifically for the Slim, but can be used on the fat as well.

Ya know...I was thinking of buying this for my PSP (Original Black), but if what you say is true, then I might as well not even bother. I would just get the Slim (if my Original is wasted) and use the battery of the original...as it's compatible with a longer lifespan...all I would need is the new Battery lid.

It's a waste getting it for the PSP-1000 and PSP-1001, because it'll barely even increase battery life by about 20%.

Too little too late. I've accepted the battery for what it is. I actually never had battery life issues to begin with, at least not like other people have stated, so just another 20% isn't worth it for me.

    Is the PSP-2000 slimmer? I hadn't noticed.

Seems like it should have had it to begin with though I ended up abandoning my PSP when travelling for the DS because of the battery life.
