Some German psychotherapists are starting to think that violent video games are detrimental to society and should be banned to discourage youth from buying or playing games such as Manhunt 2 or Halo 3. However, others are disputing the idea by saying that a ban will have the opposite effect. That is, a ban will make violent games more appealing to young people. It's the whole idea of telling a kid not to touch a hot stove. Say no and he'll do it anyway just because he wants to test his limits.

Hmm, on second thought, maybe these guys should team up with Jack Thompson...

As reported by Heise, the German Society for Scientific Person-Centred Psychotherapy (GwG) claims that parents are somehow being duped into buying violent games for their children on the basis that they promote “media competence.”

These psychotherapists need a few good slaps to wake them up, or a few punches, or a few hits with a cricket bat, whatever works.

I'm so beyond sick of hearing "professionals" say that video games screw people and society and the world and *insert thing here* up. Can they just get some mental evaluations of some good people on this site and just use that as evidence that games and the people who play them aren't the *bleep*ing cause of everything.

Haven't videogames always been the scapegoat for the problems of today's adolescent population? They don't want to blame the parents, so they simply blame the videogames.

Exactly. Video games are the scapegoat that rock music and violent movies once were. As long as parents keep pointing the finger at every other possible "influence," we'll continue to have a society of screw ups.

There saying halo 3 is as violent as Manhunt 2, am i reading this right. Wow just wow.

These people are dumb anyway, psychotherapists are failing in todays society to actually bring real evidence and not blaming it on something that has been proven false already.

      Haha, lol xD

Though im sure it would be a good idea for them to team up, would be nice for Jack to find out about his ancestors a bit more ^^

Though on a serious note they are right in the view of if they ban a product it becomes more appealing. It worked for me on Manhunt though I never actually brought it in the end.

LOL, ask people in other contries about bin laden, they'll tell you it's just a character that the USA loves using for reasons to attack their county and/or make him seem worse than he really is. They even say, he's in the CIA (Which he was not sure if he is anymore)

Anyway, you can see there "professionals" making mistakes left and right.

Makes you think twice about everything.
