So Kane & Lynch-gate rumbles on. A reliable source has came forward and said that many of Gamespot's employees are on the verge of quitting, with most ready to jump ship to another website. How true this is remains to be seen. The full extent of this is yet to be determined but it could spell disaster for Gamespot in key areas of it's site.

Speaking with a Gamespot employee yesterday who asked not to be named for this story, we've learned that, despite the neutral nature of the Gamespot news item on the matter, the editorial staff is said to be "devastated, gutted and demoralized" over the removal of former editorial director Jeff Gerstmann. While the termination of Gerstmann, a respected fixture at Gamespot, was pitched to his remaining colleagues by management as a "mutual decision", it was anything but, we're told.

The confusion over the reasons for Gerstmann's termination, compounded with a lack of transparency from management has created a feeling of "irreconcilable despair" that may eventually lead to an exodus of Gamespot editorial staffers. "Our credibility," said the source, "is in ruins." Over the course of the previous days, a "large number of Gamespot editors" have expressed their intentions to leave. Tales of emotionally deflated peers, with no will to remain at the site, were numerous.

Unless cooler heads prevail or concerns are addressed, Gamespot could see "mass resignations", our source revealed.

Well i guess Gamespot are going down in flames.

But are you sure CNET aren't going down as well.

Gamespot is only part of CNET. If Gamespot goes down, CNET will take a hit, yes, but they'll still survive. Gamespot isn't their only source of revenue.

I agree with this it seems the video review was sloppy.

    quote
but the team has "dealt with plenty of unhappy publishers before." Our contact stressed that "Money has never played a role in reviews before" and that "[Gamespot] has never altered a score." No pressure from management or sales has been exercised to remove or alter content, the source reiterated.
So basically its just stating that Eidos is not the one to blame but Gamespot higher ups, seems about right. Well i hope its right, i can't see how Eidos could have really influence his firing in the first place, they don't give him a check.

It's doubtful Eidos is innocent in this matter, giving them that benefit given all the fraud that has occured on the Kane & Lynch site itself is just foolish. They're perfectly willing to lie about their ratings and sources to hype the game up so why exempt them from influence in this?

Cause they even used the Ratchet and Clank as an exmaple of bad scores but you don't see them crying forcing reviewers to get fired. I think they are innocent lets say for the sake of debate they did say were going to take out the ads they still didn't tell them fire him or else. Thats my point though, lets put it this way if they did play in any role it wasn't a major one to cause this. The only thing i could see happening would be Gamespot losing money from Eidos if they pulled the ads. Besides the Video review was rushed Sloppy and its said he came late and only used bad parts of the game for the review. It was an over all bad review that they should get rid of, I just can't see where he can't put some effort and making the video presentable your getting paid at least take pride in your work. I see alot of people doing nothing where i am and end getting paid alot, i could do the same thing and get there money its ridiculous.

Edios doesnt need to say "fire him or else". They say, "we are not going to advertise with your site any more because of the review. Our hundreds of thousands of dollars will go to someone else now unless something is done"

Big deal its not the end of the world, i mean Gamespot get money from other people as well. That shouldn't influence them to fire him, and if it did Gamespot are even worse off than i thought.

Are you this narrow about things?

          http://kotaku.com/gaming/kane-%26-lynch/kane--lynch-site-fibbing-about-reviews-scores-329529.php

Read around the net about things before you assume that I'm trying to hang onto the gamespot thing. I'm talking about Eidos forging Kane & Lynch review scores and you're off rambling about Ratchet and Clank.

Get with the program and try to keep up with the actual news.

No offense VeGiT but That isn't what im talking about, sure ok bad mistake but is this relevant to Jeff firing i don't see how it can influence in the slightest. Im talking about Eidos stating were going to take out ads out and him firing, i just don't see that making any sort of impact other than a bad mistake. But
          Lets agree to disagree.

Yeah there's no relevance with a company forging scores to boost their product on all their regional pages with false quotes and ratings that were not consented by the companies, that in order to get them to remove them it didn't take a removal notice it took a widespread announcement to draw criticism around them.

That practice wouldn't at all show any remote signs of them having ill intent to get Gamespot to raise their score to a higher level. The industry is dirty, the companies are dirty, it's bad enough that when NVIDIA releases a slightly improved driver after a sea of bad drivers that they end up including a limited edition NVIDIA branded iPod nano with it, Eidos isn't above this tactic or worse, making it seem like "a mistake" is comical and so overly innocent it's really hard to take you seriously.

Then again its all speculation. Just like everything about this Jeff dude that has come out is rumors, I doubt Eidos has anything to do with it. But lets agree to disagree, until Eidos or gamespot says this to the public, to me its nothing.

I can't really say I'm particularly sorry about this, seeing as I never go to GameSpot, but this really sucks for those who do and work there.

I disagree. This was all blown waaaay out of proportion. The guy wrote biased reviews. He deserved to get sacked. Yet just because he was popular suddenly the entire site goes on it's head because some reveiwer gets the sack. It's ridiculous. If I got sacked from my job there's no way the rest of the staff would down tools and walk out.
This is childish and Gamespot is being punished for sacking someone for good reason.

haha this is out of control now. The funniest part of everything is that this all began with a sub-par rating for a sub-par game. Now, when people read of this catastrophe, this sub-par game will get more attention than it ever would have on its own. I remember way back before I owned either a 360 or a PS3, I was religiously keeping track of Kane & Lynch. After it finally came out, it just felt bland and not quite polished. You couldn't script something like this.

If reports are true I hope all employees abandon them, it is simply outrageous that they done such a thing to an employee that had his own view on a report.
