GameSpot FAQ on Jeff Gerstmann

First off I have to say..are you kidding me? an FAQ? Secondly, I myself feel that from the responses given, GameSpot is digging the hole they're in deeper and deeper.

So, if you haven't been in tune to the latest and most largest gossip fest of 2007 a brief summary is that GameSpot employee and reviewer Jeff Gerstmann, who, has worked at GameSpot for over ten years was recently fired. We don't know why he was fired. Speculations on the topic revolved around it having to deal with Jeff giving the low score of 6/10 for the game which EIDOS disliked and ended up in his termination. It was also noted that his video review was taken off after he was fired, Kane & Lynch ads taken off of CNet sites soon after this incident.

The FAQ confirms that EIDOS had expressed their "displeasure" for the review. Acknowledgment that the video review has now been posted back up. That they still can't say why he was fired. Admittance that the text review had been edited by them after publication.

Your thoughts on the FAQ; is GameSpot just making things worse for themselves?

    Hell yes they are. It seems that GameSpot loves this controversy to have a FAQ up...what the hell? Dragging it out? Displeased with a review doesn't mean that it was their influence...what publisher hasn't been displeased with a review that gave an average rating?

    Is it just me or was this a whole bunch of a damage control type FAQ. I mean they said 4 times Eidos had nothing to do with it and etc but since they lied to us before why should they even think we believe them now. Not only that i doubt we will ever know the true reason.
    But they truly are going down in.........FLAMES!!

    I'm having problems watching vids lately like its stops but the sound continues idk maybe my PC was being slow or something. Gamespot are just making themselves look even more stupid. I think they need to just stop with this, and let it die down. They're just making more people hate them.

      You assume they don't hate GameSpot already.... you assume wrong, GameSpot is hated dearly, and were it not for GameFAQ's it's forums would be just as empty.

        Oh no you misunderstand, im not assuming they don't already but there just making even more enemies, hence why i stated

    It does sound like they aren't giving the full story about just how "displeased" EIDOS was with Jeff but still, it's hard to pick sides when you don't have all the info and when there could be a huge amount of other reasons.

    Meh, either way it's no real skin off my nose, I don't use Gamespot unless I can't find a certain file (such as a patch) for a game after I've looked around for awhile. It would be nice to stop hearing about this soon though, but I still have a feeling we'll see a fair few people talk about it every once and awhile.

    Maybe he was late to work every day and deserved to get fired.......who knows....LOL I do agree that Gamespot is back pedaling like crazy though.

    LOL, why would they take the video down in the first place, if it had nothing to do with it? Makes no sense at all, and I knew Kane and lynch would suck. Doesn't even offer any thing new, so you'd expect it to master what it has...

    of course it wouldn't.

    They should just give up on the topic and try and heal broken wounds they have generate since he has been fired as they have hell of a lot to do.
