Famitsu magazine in Japan has stated that Phantasy Star Online will be released for the PSP in 2008. The game will include Phantasy Star Universe and include Amabition of Illuminus as well as new original stories.

Phantasy Star has been referred to as the Halo of the Dreamcast and I'm sure this news will definitely revitalise and perk up some of the older games who've not dusted of their joypads in a while, and indeed introduce the series to a newer generation.

Sega has announced it will release Phantasy Star Portable for PSP, according to this week's Famitsu. Developed by Alfa System (the same folks behind Tales of the World for PSP and Tales of Innocence for DS), the game is essentially a PSP version of Phantasy Star Universe, including expansion pack Ambition of the Illuminus and new original stories, as well.

Other than the single-player campaign, the PSP version will be incorporating 4-player co-op over Ad-hoc mode. Unfortunately, no online multiplayer is in the cards just yet.

Phantasy Star Portable is slated for a 2008 release in Japan.

You mean Phantasy Star Portable? It says right there that online multiplayer isn't in the works yet.

Wow, I played this title on the 360 and really enjoyed it. Will look out for this as I need something to play on the PSP as at the moment I have nothing

I'm a massive PSO fan. But the direction they have taken this series has made me lose faith in any newly released Phantasy Star games, if I'm to be honest.
