Well it looks like Sega might working on something else; another console to follow up their "amazing" last attempt.

Rumors are flying that Sega may be trying to make a comeback in the gaming hardware market with the release of the Sega Dreamcast 2.

Sega has sparked rumors of a Dreamcast 2 as they have filed a new protection in order to keep their Dreamcast trademark.

On August 13th Sega sent an application to the U.S. patent office for an electronic video game machine, video game interactive controller, handheld game pads, floor pads, or mats, joysticks, computer cursor control devices, computer mouse, flash memory cards, video game software, computer game programs.

If this is true, then I'll be happy. The Dreamcast was an awesome system.

I sort of skipped over Dreamcast and Saturn from Genesis, so I guess I just don't see what the big deal is, since the Dreamcast didn't seem to be an amazing, world shattering console (see N64).

I was going to submit this but all I got out of the artical that I read was the Dreamcast name was still owned by Sega just incase any other company plans on using that name.

I still have my DreamCast, great system, no doubt. This could mean we get a Shenmue 3! But yeah, it had a great run, with games such as Sonic, Shenmue, Soul Calibur, the MvC series, among others.

I hope this is true! I love my Dreamcast and would love to have an updated Dreamcast 2. Now all we need is for Macintosh to enter the gaming console market! "iGame" for the win!

Well...if Sega does make and release a new console, I happen to think that the other companies might have a huge run for their money. People loved the Dreamcast. Because of it, there would be a mad rush for the second console, especially if they pull it off well.

Errrr, a FOURTH (Fifth if you count PC's, which some of you would) Current Gen Console?

No thanks, I've got enough probs keeping up with my PS3 and 360 purchases....I was thinking of adding the Wii eventually...but eh....

I can't Edit, but actually, I think it would be more likely that they'd wait until the next round of consoles >_>

Yeah, it would be stupid to release in this generation, with the already large install bases of the other three(or four) platforms. If they could perfect a breakthrough technology for the next generation, SEGA could outsell the competition with little difficulty.

As gamer who owned every sega system that existed the best thing I remember about sega was the fun standout games they produced under their name as a console maker. To name some of my favorites,Sonic, ecco the dolphin, shining force series, shenmue, eternal champions, warsong, guardian heroes, phantasy star game series, dragon force, panzer dragoon game series. These days most games are not exclusive to any particular console so it boils down who has the better graphics and features. So who cares that most games now are great looking pieces of mediocrity. I wont mention any names but it is thing I find most disturbing about the current generation of consoles. Not to get side tracked I loved Sega as I knew it years ago and I seriously doubt they could bring anything new that I would love now. My hope is they would not tarnish my memory.

No offense Sega but i can't see you matching the powerhouse 360 and PS3 quite frankly. And seriously coming in late in the game doesn't help either. But i wouldn't mind seeing them next gen though That could be interesting but i just don't see devs leaping over to rush to Sega's new system. Thats how im seeing it anyway.

I LOVED my Dreamcast, but I don't know about this one. I'll believe it when I see it..and I probably still wouldn't believe it.

Yeah But i wouldn't mind seeing this console next gen though, if they came in now it won't work in there favor.

Hopefully Sega'll hold it back until the next gen begins. If there's one thing I don't want, it's a new console just popping out of the blackened void just like that. We've got three right now, we don't need more to choose from.

Yeah, they need to wait a few years and release it with the next-gen.

Honestly, I'm sure Sega's only good for mainly Sonic, now. Ever since their first downfall, I'd expect it'd be very hard to get up again. Dreamcast was fun, but it'll be hard for Sega to get back in the race.

And Dreamcast II? Come on. They can make a better name for it, even if it's only a codename.
