MTV's Steven Totilo interviewed Eric Lempel, director of network operations for Sony Computer Entertainment America. They mostly talked about Firmware and the PSN servers, which are constantly getting faster. The main points in this interview though, are that a few new features are coming for the PS3 this year, and that fewer but better firmware updates will occur in 2008.
Multiplayer: Thereve been a lot [of PlayStation 3 firmware upgrades] and its certainly improved the machine. I cant say that I love every time I turn my system on well not every time I turn my system on but when I turned my system on last night to check something needed an upgrade already. I just got 2.0.
Lempel: Right. Right. Were trying to certainly cut down on the amount of times we do it. But on occasion when weve got these good features ready to go, lets give them out to the consumers. Lets get them out there. We definitely understand that it does happen frequently and that can be somewhat annoying to some users.

It's just that you people want a new *bleep*ing feature each time they make a firmware update. The fact is, Sony updates the firmware of the PS3 way more often than Microsoft does the 360 and most of the small firmware updates on the PS3 are only bug fixes, and having small but frequent bug fixes is NEVER a bad thing. Just look at the amount of Windows XP update content there is, there's stuff available on a near weekly basis.
360 updates far less frequently but when they do they get bug fixes and feature sets out of the way in one go, giving the impression of "better" updates. Which is just plain stupid to see it that way.
