JP Wii Virtual Console: 12/11/07: Finally One of the Greatest Games of All Time

Akira_EX | December 11, 2007 | News | Wii
With the NA releases of Sin & Punishment and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels on the Virtual Console, paying attention to which games get VC releases in both Japan and Europe get much more important, as these games are then ready to be used on the VC, and sport the possibility of crossing the ocean.

Well, Japan finally gets Super Mario Bros. 3, after both North America and Europe have had it for a month. Not much else to say, except that it is still one of the greatest games of all time.

The offerings this week:
  • Super Mario Bros. 3 for the Famicom
  • Lunar Ball for the Famicom (Known as Lunar Pool in other regions)
  • Columns III Taiketsu! Columns World for the Mega Drive
  • Image Fight II for the PC Engine (inspiration for legendary studio Treasure's Radiant Silvergun)
  • One of the most celebrated Virtual Console games of the year finally makes it to Japan this week. It's already made its way to the VC in other territories, while Japanese gamers waited patiently for the chance to download it themselves. Now the long wait is over and they can finally get their hands on Pony Canyon's Lunar Pool.

As for new releases that we don't already have, we're looking forward to IREM's Image Fight II. Sure, it's another Turbografx-16 shooter, but we liked the first one so much, and we've never played the sequel. And Columns III is more Columns, but with heavier emphasis on multiplayer. And adorable chickens.

  • Super Mario Bros. 3 (Famicom, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
  • LunarBall (Famicom, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
  • Columns III Taiketsu! Columns World (Mega Drive, 1-5 players, 600 Wii Points)
  • Image Fight II (PC Engine, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
