Since Sony dropped the price of the 40Gb Playstation 3, it seems to have given them a boost in the sales department. Let's hope Sony keep on the sales bandwagon and drop the prices even more!

Gamedaily posted an article today regarding some rather good news for Sony. According to Sony Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Howard Stringer, the PS3 is now selling 200,000 consoles per week in Europe. He also notes that the system is selling 40,000 to 50,000 units per week in Japan.

It's still behind the competition by like 10 million, though.

Um try 6 million actually. You do you know they passed 6 million months ago yes.

Ah no its not. I believe the PS3 has sold roughly 6 million units. The Wii which I believe is coming first in terms of consoles sold is only at roughly 13 million. So the PS3 is only 7 or 8 million behind.

I guess it must not be the world's most expensive dust collector. Might be getting one of these soon, specifically for Assassin's Creed and Heavenly Sword.

Considering the sheer amount of people out there who were pretty much unanimously stating "Yeah, when the price drops", you have to expect sales to go up when it actually does drop.

Dropping the prices by £40 on one of their models doesn't necessarily mean that it would definitely boost their sales. It seems to have worked. I'd expect an even bigger boost in sales, if they dropped the price of the 80Gb model.

And increased sales has nothing at all to do with November and December being the biggest shopping months of the year, and the time when the vast majority of games and game consoles get sold anyway?

In all seriousness, price drops always help sales, but believing that a price drop is the main reason for an increase in sales over the past month or so is just ignorant. Every consumer product sees a spike in sales during the holiday shopping season, and the PS3 is no different.

I agree, and let's not forget that there are so many factors involving the PS3 sales being sluggish in the first place. Price, lack of content, lack of Rumble, shitty marketing. All of these factors are starting to be sorted out. Grand Theft Auto and Final Fantasy will help push this console in the year to come as well. PS3 should have a great 2008.

How does the lack of rumble cause sluggish sales!? The only problem was games and price thats it. And as for marketing yeah they did have bad ones.

well people use it as a negative against the ps3 when deciding weither to get the ps3 or 360.

But it didn't contribute to the sluggish sales, the price and games was the main problems. Even if they did have Dualshock 3 at start the sales wouldn't be any different up to now.

Hopefully this will be the start of the massive turn around for our favorite dust collector.

I think the PS3 will forever have a negative spin on it one way or another. Besides, most prefer a 360 over PS3 due to more games, seeing as 360 has all the huge titles. I ask anyone I meet and they'll tell me "PS3 Sux, 360 rulez!"

I find it very odd that you insist on bashing the PS3 when you own one and say things like
    quote
    S'too bad I'll never own a 360...
    .

As for sales, for Sony's sake they better start making a profit off of their console sales sooner than later. They're still selling PS3s at a loss.

Aye, I stopped paying attention to their first party stuff like LBP or Home...things just get delayed and delayed and I'm sick of it, other than that, I'm getting quite a collection for the PS3.
