Activision Royally Screws PS3 Rock Band Owners

dmf_dynasty | December 12, 2007 | News | Playstation 3
After the controversy of the PS3 Guitar Hero III guitar peripherals not working with Harmonix's Rock Band, Harmonix worked relatively quickly to create a patch to allow the GH3 guitar controllers. After giving the patch to Sony, who approved the patch for a December 4th release, Activision objected the patch. As of now, the details are not known as to why the patch was denied.
However, Activision gave PS3 players and Harmonix the proverbial finger by objecting to the patch. The reasons for this aren’t readily apparent (other than Activision being an ass hat)

Why would Activision refuse an offer to help their biggest rivals?

    That sure is a mystery.

Not really, seeing as they support the 360 version. The real mystery is why they allow it with the 360, but deny the patch for the PS3.

No, he was being sarcastic in that it's a mystery why Activision wouldn't help their rivals. He never brought up the fact that it works for 360, but not for PS3.

Because they're two different consoles? I don't see where you're going with this. Explain, I'm curious.

Actually, I think dmf_dynasty is in the right with his comment, Activision already allow the X360 version of the GH3 peripherals to work, so why not expand that to the PS3 version as well? That is a legit question, and it doesn't have anything about helping their rivals since at the end of the day, they're already "helping" their rivals with the X360 version, so they might as well be consistent.

Ever thought the update was not finished or not working properly. But sucks for PS3 owners.

Obviously it was finished and working properly if Sony approved it and set a release for December 4th

Exactly. If it got through all the approvals, it was working as intended. There is no excuse for prohibiting the release of a patch.

Obviously there's SOME excuse, thought probably not one we'd consider here.

The thing is Sony approved it but not them so something must have played a role in there disapproval. Could be multiple reasons i can think of some, but then again this might be a rumor.

Honestly I was getting kind of bored with the Guitar Hero anyway. It's fun to break out when company is over, and I did spend some serious time on it......but I wouldn't waste my money on another form (Rockband). I don't see what the big deal is and why Activision won't play nice.

Perhaps they realized that it didn't fully fix the bugs? The title's a bit misleading, ActiVision may have done this for our own good.
