MCV survey: Xbox 360 will win next-gen war

It's just a survey, but figures taken from trade publication MCV's latest retail survey suggest that the Xbox 360 will beat out the PS3 and Wii in the unfolding battle to produce a next-gen victor.

The independent survey, which was conducted across 100 videogame stores, revealed that Halo 3 exists as the best single moment of the year. Further to Halo 3’s high-profile standing in 2007, Microsoft is seen as the best videogame publisher while the Xbox 360 gathered some 49 percent of the vote to emerge as the format most likely to win as the console of choice in the current hardware generation.

    Funny, its too early to start claiming gen victor and handing them trophies. Seriously stop guessing and wait 2 years or something before making statements like this.

    Hmm how is the 360 going to win the next gen war? The next gen war will be when the PS4 and the Wii 2 come out. Don't they mean the current war?

    Nah. It could possibly not win. Although that's not to say it will lose. It's far too hard to tell at this point. I wish people would stop caring so much about the console war and just buy the systems they want.

    I agree with Incidnia, but right now with the games out microsoft is destroying the ps3 (game wise if you didn't understand my statement). For Silver mirror you can't say wait till the ps4 or wii2 comes out because how don't you know the microsoft won't come out with something new.

      What he means is, Next gen is PS4 Wii 2 etc, but Current gen is the PS3 360 Wii, but they said next gen so it makes no sense. Which i agree with Silver here.

    calling the seventh generation next-gen is annoying, it's been here for over a year now, also the DS will win the handheld war, I'm guessing the next Nintendo handheld will be announced some time next year and released in two/three years

    If the 360 can keep up with great titles such as Mass Effect, Gears of War, DoA/Ninja Gaiden (imo), BioShock, etc., then I really don't deny this 'survey.'

    It should be clear that this year belongs to the 360, but the war is far from over.

    How can Xbox 360 beat both of those systems? They barely have any wii's in stores, but they have 360's and ps3's in alot of stores. Plus, now they're making some games for senior citizens! They're starting to buy them and play like golf and stuff!

      Probably because people buy the Wii, and then they get sick of it. There's a lot of stories of people trading a Wii in for a PS3 or Xbox360 because it just doesn't suit them that well.

    360's beaten the PS3 since Sony's console arrived, game-wise. And it will likely win 2008's Q1 and Q2 with games cause devs still prefer 360. Past 2008 is anyone's game. If Sony kicks it into gear to pull away from the media aspect of the PS3 and secures some good exclusives, they could finally become a heated contender. As for the war, a victor is years away.

      Game Informer gave Microsoft publisher of the year this year. Last year it wasn't even on the list...assuming you're right Microsoft was broke last year. Don't think so. They're doing good business and making good moves to snag exclusives.

      Even if you hate Microsoft you have to admit they know what they are doing. After all, they didn't get to where they are dumping money on everything.

    It's true, if we get a 'usage report' most Wii's aren't being played as much as the other two consoles, then of course, there's not enough decent titles for the PS3. It's simple common sense, really.

    I echo what Storm said, the PS3's gaming catalogue is awful at the moment, the 360's is incredible and the Wii is only fun for a week, then the novelty wares off.
