Not to long ago Sony caused quite a stir by announcing that the PS3 would be DivX compatible. Not to be out done Microsoft issued the very same thing in its latest update for the XBOX360. But Sony have just upsized the deal. Not only will the PS3 be able to run DivX files but it is also certified. This means as well as running the files developers can actually use the format for cutscenes. This is a move which could have many interesting implications.
We all know the Xbox 360 supports DivX nowadays. We told you it was coming, and it came. Now the PS3 is supposed to get DivX support, although Sony has better plans for the popular video format.
Last month, DivX announced that the PS3 will soon support DivX, and, this month, Gizmodo met with the company, which shared some interesting details on the big move.
First of all, unlike the Xbox 360, the PS3 is DivX certified. While Microsofts console can only playback some DivX files, the PS3 will get full DivX functionality. This includes the ability for game developers to use the very efficient compression format for in-game cut-scenes.

Hell tallteen86 even showed good examples as well.
But yeah, I hope this allows for better looking cutscenes
Probably be good for future Tony Hawk (and games with live action unlockable scenes) games on the PS3
