Reggie Fils-Aime has recently stated that Nintendo are interested in adding voice chat to the Wii. Nintendo wouldn't have much of a problem adding a bluetooth headset as the Wiimote already utilizes the same wireless technology.

While the Wii isn't known for its particularly awesome online scene (*cough* friend codes *cough*), Nintendo is interested in improving the product. NOA President Reggie Fils-Aime said this morning during a conference call that while they have no interest in adding voice chat to Virtual Console titles, it could be coming to the Wii all the same.

"In terms of voice chat... certainly our system has the capability for online voice chat, what it comes down to is finalizing the peripheral... I would not be surprised to see that capability come to this system."

And finalizing a peripheral shouldn't be much of a problem, because Nintendo could easily add a Bluetooth headset...since the Wiimote already utilizes the wireless standard.

It's a step in the right direction for the Wii's online capabilities. Possibly challenge Xbox Live!

I guess they finally realized how much profit you can make from a great online service (ie. Xbox Live). I really hope they decide to do this.

Would mind seeing it implemented just like the DS.

It really would help the online part as well too.

I'd enjoy seeing this. It would help with co-op for games such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Galaxy.

Let's see... many, many younger kids who play the Wii and expect to win. I can't wait to see what happens when their parents buy them a headset. XD

This is SO perfect for Brawl, now all we need is for NINTY to say,"Guess what? BRAWL COMES WITH A HEADSET!"

Maybe the delay was so that the game includes a translation system.

I was joking, I know the odds against that.

And I could bug the hell out of everyone with information about any inconsistencies in any referenced games. Sonic will be a great source for that.

What? I like Sonic, but there are a lot of plot holes. Shadow is a great character but he is the source of most, and lets not forget the hyper emeralds.

Knowing nintendo you would proibly need a freind code, formal written permision from each others parents AND must be supervised when your doing it.

      InnerDemon Dec 17, 07
Well MP:H is like well lets get FC's while playing random games.

So I doubt that you will need permission or have to be supervised.

You don't like what the other person is saying than don't listen.

I don't think they will take it to such extremes, slumpy monkey. I think the only thing it will require is the friend code, such as in things like Pokemon Pearl and such. But, if the game is rated teen or something, we might not require it.

Well, they have it for DS, so I see no reason for them not to have it available for the Wii. It would have been great if they made voice chat available with their first batch of online games though. Voice chat in Battalion Wars 2 would have been awesome.
