GameTrailers TV To Launch In January

Hakashi | December 14, 2007 | News | Playstation 2
Your favorite Review is finally coming to television in January, all your favorite video games are finally going to get the live attention they deserve
Video games on television is becoming more commonplace, and now, Spike TV (which hosts the annual Video Game Awards) and GameTrailers.com are teaming up to deliver something every gamer should appreciate: it's "GameTrailers TV with Geoff Keighley."

This "unprecedented multi-platform integration" will be a weekly magazine-style show and it will be available in high-definition on the air and online. Things get rolling on January 25, 2008; this is MTVN Entertainment Group's very first digital property to have a "fully executed half-hour show for linear television." Yeah, there's G4TV and "Game Head," but this should ramp things up to a whole new level, as viewers will be able to see expanded GameTrailers editorial content every week. Keighley will be joined by Amanda MacKay and Daniel Kayser, and the trio will deliver all the latest news and updates on the hottest games, events and stars of the industry. The show will boast a rotation of over 20 "timely and relevant segments," so it should include plenty of info for every type of gamer out there.

"We're tapped into the gaming culture and continue to see our traffic explode to more than nine million uniques per month," said Jon Slusser, SVP, Spike Digital Media and Video Games and executive producer of "GameTrailers TV." "With 'GameTrailers TV,' we are merging our rabid online gaming audience with Spike TV's coveted male 18-34 year-old demo to deliver gaming on a massive scale."

"We are thrilled to be the first network within the MTVN Entertainment Group to launch a half-hour program fully produced and created by one of our digital properties," said Kevin Kay, President, Spike TV. "'GameTrailers TV' illustrates how GameTrailers and Spike TV can work together to create content that resonates with gamers, while driving viewers and users to both brands."

"GameTrailers TV with Geoff Keighley" will air every Friday at 1:00 a.m.ET/PT on Spike TV starting on January 25, and you'll also be able to catch it on GameTrailers.com and the Xbox Live Marketplace. No word yet on whether or not they'll make this available on the PlayStation Store, but at this point, it seems unlikely (no mention of it was made in the press release). But anyway, this new show is just another step in the right direction for the industry, and should help to bring gaming even closer to the mainstream public.

"The debut of 'GameTrailers TV' is a landmark event for videogame television," says Geoff Keighley. "We're evolving 'Game Head' and taking a multi-platform approach across TV, online and Xbox Live Marketplace. And no matter how you want to view the show we're delivering it in high-definition to showcase games the way they are meant to be experienced."
