The move towards 'virtual actors' is something now defining itself as a distinct possibility in Hollywood (see: Beowulf), and that technology could also see A-list stars signing on to perform for videogame productions too. Take Quantic Dream and Heavy Rain for example, which is the topic of discussion in a GamesIndustry interview.

Back in 2004, Quantic Dream attempted to lure the star toward Fahrenheit (Xbox, PS2, PC), which led to a meeting that ended with DiCaprio politely declining on the grounds that technology was not at a sufficient level to accurately portray his acting performance.

But time and technology has moved on since then, and Quantic Dream is once again hoping to sign up some of Hollywood’s biggest box office stars for its latest PlayStation 3 game, which is presently being produced beneath the working title of ‘Heavy Rain.’

fcuk off man, the game wasn't about you. You would just be a voice in it. Thats why I hate Hollywood; everyone's ego is heavier than their own weight. Accurately portray his acting performance? lol if they weren't giving you the money you wanted, just say so.

No, no... not just a voice. The article clearly states they were looking to recreate DiCaprio as an in-game "virtual actor," much as was recently seen with Angelina Jolie in the movie Beowulf. At that time, DiCaprio thought the tech was not suitably evolved, which is probably true.

What does it matter? The point, as always, was still to make a good game, regardless of who was in it. So what he couldn't be represented as well as he would have liked, which I disagree with completely. Its a videogame. Did he think that his career would be somehow soiled because his virtual representation was not up to par? Thats just silly. If he didn't like the role, then thats fine, but that excuse doesn't make sense and just sounds like another hollywood actor wanting more spotlight than necessary. As great a game as Indigo Prophecy is, in my opinion it would have been ruined if they went that route anyway.
