E3 Expo 2008 Confirmed for LACC

JelalTrueshot | December 18, 2007 | News | PC Playstation 2 Misc
In a press release this morning, the ESA announced that E3 Expo 2008 will return to the Los Angeles Convention Center, where E3 originally started, and run from July 15th through 17th. This is in response to the negative feedback received from the expo being held at multiple smaller venues around Santa Monica last year.
From the press release:
The event will continue to focus on the business of the computer and video game industry, with an emphasis on press events and small meetings with media, development, and other key sectors. While there will be opportunities for game demonstrations, the 2008 E3 Media & Business Summit will not feature the large trade show environment of
previous years.

E3 was at several small locations in Santa Monica, CA last year following the big break-up from it's former style. I am glad they are going back to the LACC even though it is still 'nerfed'.

They have to make use of that huge convention somehow...hopefully they'll rethink the 'nerfed' situation. Meh, as slumpy monkey mentioned, it's no the same anymore.

Actually they don't. Often is it that the LACC and other convention centers rent out each hall, so they can maximize revenue if they have a large structure. If you look over the floor plans for the LACC you'll notice you could handle 3-4 conventions in there without much issue.

If developers all agree to be there and not shoot around all over downtown LA then I'd say that I would be a happy camper. Santa Monica was horrible and I found myself talking about how much of a waste it was shooting around the city, down to LA and back and axing various companies from coverage even.

The show isn't a general public show, even if you wanted to come in they wouldn't let you see the publishers / developers or the kiosks. In the show this year they had guards positioned at 20 - 50ft from the actual entrance to the events to make sure the public was kept away from hearing anything remotely interesting.
