Grand Theft Auto IV: Clarification on "additional" Xbox 360 exclusive content

Xenctuary | December 19, 2007 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360
Following earlier rumours of even more episodic content for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV, Rockstar Games have cleared up the confusion over "additional" exclusive downloadable content being made available in 2009.

A representative from Rockstar Games has clarified that while there will still be exclusive downloadable content for Xbox 360 gamers, it will be no more than what was previously announced by Microsoft in May. A single episode will be released in 2008 and another in 2009.

Ben Feder, Take-Two CEO, confirmed in a recent conference call that Grand Theft Auto IV is still on track for an release early next year on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gaming platforms.
A Rockstar rep told Next-Gen Wednesday that the content in question is merely the second of the two previously announced pieces of episodic content making their way to Xbox 360. While both pieces of episodic content were initially scheduled to hit Xbox 360 in Take-Two’s fiscal 2008, the second piece of content will now be available in fiscal 2009, a delay presumably brought about by the later than expected release of the highly anticipated title, which slipped from a planned 2007 debut to a 2008 fiscal second quarter (February 1 - April 30) release.

Hmmmm......well this is pretty sad really. I hate to say it, but I miss the days of truly exclusive titles. It made the companies actually cater to one core audience instead of playing favorites. Now they just port crap over and give this system this, and this system that....and whoever hands out the biggest check for exclusive shit wins.

    I'm NOT going to buy a 360 Microsoft....sorry.

Shame this has already been proven false ^^ The 360 isn't getting any addition content - In fact, its getting less, in 2008 at least.
What the Take-Two representative meant, is that one of the two episodic packs confirmed for the 360 has actually been delayed till fiscal year 2009. So you'll get one pack in 2008 and the other in 2009, rather than getting them both in 2008, which was initially planned.

    Oo and Source

If you read he means that 360 won't get the whole DLC in one shot in 08 like it was initially planed for. Instead they're getting less in 08 and the rest in 09.

Hmmm...not bad. Still means that the 360 version will be superior because of this DLC.

We yet to know what that DLC is. Hopefully it would be worth it though.

Supposedly missions that continue the story or introduce new plot elements.

I would think the superior version would be the one that plays better. Download content is just extra play time.

Well idk this could be a problem though. I mean what if the PS3 version gets there DLC all in one shot or something that could boost the PS3 sales more. while the 360 won't be much since its full DLC isn't going to happen until fiscal year 09.

Well, then keep your fingers crossed for that being the scenario...

I just don't see why people thumbed me down for that post. I was merely stating a what if scenario. I guess we just have to see what happens when the time comes.

So in other words, the 360 version still has more than PS3 version, it just gets it later...? When the DLC arrives is irrelevant. The point is that the 360 version is still getting it and the PS3 version doesn't get anything.

I played GTA San Andreas for over two years. I wonder how long GTA IV will hold our attention. The 2008 to the 2009 releases could could be like eight months apart.

If I had a 360 and a PS3, I would still buy GTA IV for the 360 but all in all. This bonus feature is not something I'm really interested in.

Well it makes sence. If GTA comes out like may 08 it would be stupid to releease 2 extra chapters or episodes in the same year. I guese its a way of keeping sales high in 09.

Don't set your standards too high, people. Liberty city won't last forever.

Down-thumb me all you want, it's the truth.

It'll last longer than you may think. The first GTA title for next-gen consoles won't die out easily nor quickly.

      .....WHA!
That makes no sense, its like me saying "Don't set your standards too high, people. 360 won't last forever". Or any other thing. Can you make any less sense in a post.

I believe Moogo Monkey Masta meant that irrelevant of the quality of the game (and indeed its downloadable content releases), it's ultimately finite. But that doesn't mean it can't be great while it lasts, right?
