Yep, ridiculous ain't it? Video games get blamed for everything nowadays. >>;

Sure, you are likely to stay in the house playing video games, but the same could be said for TV or any other kind of indoor entertainment.

As we all know, obesity is a serious issue especially in the US, and fat kids are becoming the majority (let’s see you pick on them now), but who carries the blame for turning the youth into useless balls of fat? Well, I know what you’re thinking, lots of fat food and soda right? Maybe the food has something to do with it, but definitely not the sweet soda. At least that’s what the American Beverage Association (ABA) is saying.

Why the hell not blame our hobby, everyone else blames it for the ills of the world. Lets just stack another one on the pile and grab for a cheeseburger.

What we lack as a society is personal accountability. If I sit at home and do nothing but eat and gain a bunch of weight, isn't it my own fault?

One of the comments to that story said exactly what I was about to post.

    quote
Holy crap! Are you serious? A fat lazy kids sit’s on his ass all day playing video games, drinking soda, eating chips, ho ho’s, and McDonalds and you’re going to blame the company that bottled the soda?

It’s not their fault, or the video game’s, for that matter. You can only blame kids and parents for the stupid choices kids and parents make.

The reason kids are fat is because THEY eat too much, THEY sit on their asses playing games, THEY don’t get enough exercises, THEIR PARENTS buy lousy, unhealthy food, THEIR PARENTS don’t turn off the TV and games, THEIR PARENTS don’t make sure they get outside.

All the taxes and fees and and surcharges and deposits in the world won’t stop lazy people from being lazy.

Indeed. People are looking for scapegoats for what is not really that complex a problem.

Video games are an easy scapegoat for problems with today's youth. I'll acknowledge that video games is the culprit of a problem when proof is shown that video games are DIRECTLY involved in the issue.

So your blaming a Halo advertisement on a Moutain Dew drink that has been out for about 2 months for American's obesity?

I've seen McDonalds sponsering Football games, To theoreticly Sport is making people fat?

I'm so tired of hearing this bullshit, I really am. Can we please just give everyone who blames everything on video games a punch in the face now to possibly wake them up?

This kind of thing really irritates me. Sure, video games may lead to something, but it is the kids fault for not playing sports. I play video games all the time, but I also know when to back off and go outside. Most kids should have that, and if not it should be the parents that are at fault, not the games.

It's really up to the individual, maybe even how they were raised. Say if an eager child wanted to play catch when his father came home, but the parent was too tired to do so after a long day of work, they'd probably have to go play video games to keep them occupied.

Then again, it's really just about self-control. If you can set a good time limit with games and other activities, then it balances out.

Also just to point out, Some people just can't lose weight, and that is normally cause by a certain disease and problem which can't be fixed that easily. So blaming games to scape goat the problem, isn't helping anything.

Yeah a disease called being a lazy *bleep*. Seriously, only a FEW people have weight related diseases compared to the thousands who are just plain fat.

Just a few people? Just a few people in the entire world? What are you, as thick as Jupiter is big? There are more than just a few (few being like 3-5) in the bloody world who have weight related diseases. Also not everybody has a perfect body for exercise. They may have bad backs, arthritis, and god knows what else. On top of that, some people just have a piss poor metabolism. Don't blame it all on people being just lazy. I'm one of the laziest people on the planet but I have a great metabolism and never exercise (my back hates me) and I'm fine. I'm not saying some people out there aren't guilty of not exercising just because they are lazy so don't get the wrong idea. But for *bleep*s sake, don't be an ass and generalize that anybody can do it with just a click of the fingers.

Also I'd like to add that some people are just bloody born that way. Next time, don't be a dick when you reply.

So you're pretty stupid huh? I said a few people COMPARED TO the thousands of just plain fat asses, meaning that the normal fat people greatly outnumber those with excuses. Not all fat *bleep*s can use disease and being born that way as an excuse. The majority of fat people are fat for no good reason. I have an extremely bad back and a slow metabolism but guess what, I'm not fat because I don't stuff my face every chance I get.

Next time, don't be a bitch when you reply.

Deadman once again you prove your ignorance. You really need to learn about the human body and diseases before saying anything about my post.

Also not everyone stuff their faces with food. They're tons of reasons why their fat, that has nothing to do with what they eat or how much.

Video games DO contribute to obesity, but so do television shows, movies, basicall any entertainment. Games, movies and TV are awesome and should be enjoyed, but kids need to be healthy, a sense of balance is what they should be shown, and it is up to their parents or guardians to make sure they stay in shape and have fun with their games. They also need to be taught how to eat correctly...again it's the responsibility of the guardian, not their television set.

I think this is one problem that video games can finally take the blame for. It hasn't affected me personally, but they're just so damn addictive I can see the problems they cause. Of course, like anything, it doesn't affect everyone, and it's not the sole cause of obesity, but I believe it to be a major contributor.
