Time magazine said Halo 3, Spike TV said BioShock, Maxim said Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and now the New York Times declares that Mass Effect is the game of the year. Also according to NY Times, Halo 3 and Super Mario Galaxy are complete "unambitious representations of the state of the art."

A little lesbianism goes a long way as the New York Times names Mass Effect its game of the year for 2007. The NYT bestowed Mass Effect with the honor for its "focus on character development, personal growth and moral tension, all fueled by a graphics system created to evoke emotional empathy." Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction was honored for being the shining star on the PS3 and BioShock was named the "best newcomer." There's also digs at Halo 3 and Super Mario Galaxy for being "unambitious representations of the state of the art."

Wow, The New York Times are getting into the GOTY mix, eh? The game is amazing, and I tend to agree with the Times on this one, although I'm more driven to say that CoD4 is the GOTY as Maxim declared it. With a great story, different paths, and decent characters, this RPG is one that can't be missed for fans of the genre. Hell I bet it can get non-RPG fans interested.

Oh yeah, X-Play also announced BioShock as the GOTY.

I personally can't see CoD4 being the game of the year, storm. It just came out like late November, thats not alot of time imo.

I thought it came out late October..oh well. CoD4 did win the best shooter and military so i think there awards justify the game.

I'm not into outer space type of games but I do in fact agree with COD4 being the game of the year.

Man, I knew this game was good, but I didn't figure it would be GOTY good.

    Hopefully I'll get this tomorrow.

Good to see Mass Effect given some love. Everyone reviews it and have nothing but good things to say. But then they all seem to pick Bioshock as GOTY. Xplay is the perfect example their review was perfect imo, but more importantly a rave review. Still chose Bioshock though.

Honestly, I do. It's one of the featured papers that my college offers, so whilst waiting for classes and such I pick one up and read.

So what if they declare a GOTY, is Time or Maxim any better?

From my personal view: Mass Effect > BioShock. It's an all around beautiful game with the most complete and compelling storyline that I've ever experienced.

It's a great game and deserves some recognition, wouldn't go as far to say GOTY though.

Mass Effect was sub-par, same with it's graphics.
Bioshock deserved GOTY much more than ME.
