Drink driving is neither big nor clever, in fact it's nothing but dangerous. That's a point authorities in the UK are keen to stress in new integrated billboard commercials set to appear in some of gaming's biggest franchises.

As part of a seasonal anti drink-driving campaign, the Scottish Government is this week allocating some £10,000 GBP to the integration of advisory public information adverts onto videogame billboards found in the likes of Project Gotham Racing 4, Need for Speed: Carbon, and Pro Evolution Soccer 2008.

    That's pretty cool I guess.

I'll have to keep an eye out next time I fire up Pro Ev.

Pretty ironic that sensible driving laws are being advertised within games that actively encourage you to lose control of your car for points or to enjoy illegal street racing. Double standards? haha

"Drink" driving? I thought it was "drunk" driving.

*EDIT* Nevermind. Must be another difference between the US and the UK. My bad.

Yeah it's called drink driving in the UK. Because even though you may be over the limit, you may not be "drunk".

OH i thought it was billboards in the UK it self. Well still bad to advertise it in games i guess. Especially with the whole games influence you nonsense going on.

Sorry but how can an advertising campaign that reaches it's target audience (17-24) effectively with a positive message be considered a bad thing?

I'm not the biggest fan of the current Government here but I think this is an excellent, modern idea that should be applauded.

I'm not trying to bash the idea, just saying that's it's funny they chose games that encourage you to drive anything but "safely".

I gotta agree with steel here. Its not really helpful. Listen with all this Videogames influence your actions in real life stuff going on, like Jack Thompson. They could see this and say "See, look at this. They are encouraging players to drink and drive and not being safe drivers". And thats not going to lead well, especially how were getting loads of articles stating Video games causes fatness, or Videogames cases this and that.

Im looking at it from another perspective. You don't have to agree but i don't see how this is a good idea.
