JP Wii Virtual Console: 12/25/07: A Christmas' Worth of RPGs

With the NA releases of Sin & Punishment and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels on the Virtual Console, paying attention to which games get VC releases in both Japan and Europe get much more important, as these games are then available on the VC, and sport the possibility of crossing the ocean.

It's a day of RPGs for the Japanese Virtual Console, with three games being added; it's not the top tier stuff that we would like, but there are some serviceable RPGs here.

  • Treasure Hunter G for the Super Famicom - It was Square's last game for a Nintendo console at the time; also worth noting that this was developed by Sting Entertainment, who's also responsible for games like Evolution, Riviera, Yggdra Union and BAROQUE.
  • Langrisser II for the Mega Drive - It's a part of Masaya's Langrisser series. Also features our favorite manly men Adon and Samson, in a Cho Aniki-themed hidden level.
  • Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes for the PC Engine Super CD-ROM - it's a part of the Dragon Slayer series, but is the first game in the The Legend of Heroes series of games developed by Nihon Falcom

    It's a wonderful Christmas for people in Japan who have the day off work. In fact, it's a pretty great Christmas on the VC for people who have the month off work. Japan gets a VC lineup this week that is wall-to-wall RPGs, including one of the rare VC appearances from Square Enix, foisting off another of the few games they don't feel like remaking for the DS, PSP, PS2, or cell phones.

    Also appearing this week is Langrisser II, the second in Masaya's strategy-RPG series to appear on the VC, and Nihon Falcom's Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes, part of a big old series that never saw much action outside of Japan. The weather outside is frightful, but the level grinding is so delightful!

      Just for Japan? Well, those are some quality titles, especially Dragon Slayer. Huh, we got The Lost Levels? *runs to buy SMB*
