The Nintendo Wii might be a little hard to find in stores at the moment, but for little Taylor Smith, who suffers with a degenerative muscle disease, Nintendo pulled out the stops to make sure her Christmas was memorable.

11-year-old Taylor Smith, who has suffered with degenerative muscle disease arthrogryposis all her life, was gifted with her very own Wii this festive period – courtesy of Nintendo – after a family friend wrote to Nintendo in Australia asking for its assistance.

Go Nintendo! Very kind even if she can't use the Wii controller and has to use the norm controllers. Still a nice idea. I don't know too much about her condition, though muscle degeneration does speak for itself. Hopefully she'll get better either by some miracle or some new med or something.

Perhaps they intend to use the Wii to keep her strength up?

It has been reported to be used in physical rehab (physical therapy) or something....

We don't know how bad she is, she could still be strong enough to use a Wii-mote (they aren't that heavy after all)....Perhaps she is simply at the point where she just isn't as strong as her peers, but not so weak that she is unable to function...

It is progressive though, she'll get worse, not better, but who knows, regular physical action could slow down the progression of the disease...

Details about her condition are sketchy, is all...

In the article it says the Wii is one of the few physical things they could do with her.

This reminds me how Sony rewarded that kid who saved his father and other people with a PS3. Good job Nintendo. Helping kids everywhere.

Good for Nintendo. I'm happy for her.

Why call her brave though? Living with a disease doesn't make you brave.

    I don't consider myself brave.
