Xbox Live friendship turns to rape threats

A young girl in Spokane, Washington has become the target of a New York stalker who befriended her via Xbox Live before driving across the country and threatening her (and her sister) with rape.

For most, the prospect of escaping to the online world of Xbox Live is something anticipated with excitement over the course of yet another mundane day’s existence. However, for two young sisters in the state of Washington, Microsoft’s hugely popular multiplayer haven recently became the platform for a friendship that quickly turned into a frightening obsession.

    Recently read about this before coming here. I would neve give out my last name, let alone my cell phone number over live. I can understand why the girl did it, this man was probably being nice to her all year, he did send gifts after all. :S

    Still, the end result of this case obviously has a morale, to not easily trust people over the Internet and simply give away information, hell don't trust people you meet outdoors that easily.

    No that's what he claimed he did, it's unknown at this point if that's true or not. The 'googling' was done in quotes. I'm sure he had connections somewhere to get it, either that or she was a bit too open with her information on the Net.

      Didn't you read that article at all? He got her cell phone number by searching her name on Google.

      Anyway, I blame Google for this. It's become more and more easy to find a person's personal information like address and phone number just by searching a few bits of info on Google.

        Read storms post, the first one, and it says she gave it to him over Live. He found her new Cell phone number from Google. And that was taken from Tall Teen post.

        And i tried finding my Cell number on google funnily enough you can't
