It's now 2008, and thus the start of a new year in gaming, including a new year of releases on the Wii Virtual Console. As we trek through the regions week by week, I wonder what games of old will make there way into this generation on the VC.
Europe gets the first update of the new year, with Japan not getting an update on New Year's. The main game in the update is a fan-favorite: Harvest Moon for the SNES. The original farming game that could has been widely considered as one of the best of the whole enormous series it spawned. Also, apparently the original cartridge is quite rare, making this a good update to make an old classic easily available.
Not mentioned at the Virtual Console Archive is another update, courtesy of Wikipedia. The game? Awesome Possum for the Genesis. I've never heard of it, but the Wikipedia article describes it as a Sonic clone.
To recap, the games:

After ending 2007 with a one-game week, people hoped Nintendo would start the next year with multiple games. Unfortunately, they fail to deliver, and it's one game once again!
Just like last week, it's not a complete mess, however, as it's a quality title - Harvest Moon for the SNES. This is the first game in the popular farming series, and it's usually regarded as the best one, as well. The game's notorious among collectors for being extremely hard to find, the cartridge can fetch some pretty high prices on auction sites! If you've always wanted to own the game but couldn't cough up the money for a cartridge, then now's your chance!
Only one game again, also meaning this is the first time there's no Sega Week at the beginning of the month! Check out the review:
