Looks like Microsoft is trying to make things right for the recent Xbox Live issues it's users have been having. From disconnections to not being able to connect at all...the situation is not good. Now they are offering a free Live Arcade game for our troubles though. Specifics to come.

Dear Xbox LIVE Members:

During this past holiday season you helped us break a number of Xbox LIVE records. This included our largest sign-up of new members to Xbox LIVE in our 5 year history and just yesterday you broke the record for the single biggest day of concurrent members ever on the service.

As a result of this massive increase in usage we know that some of you experienced intermittent Xbox LIVE issues over the holiday break. While the service was not completely offline at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance. I would like to take this moment to thank you each and every one of you for your patience and understanding as our team has worked around the clock to return the service to a stable state.

At the same time we would like to offer a token of our appreciation to all of you in celebration of record success for the service. And as a thank you for your loyalty during this holiday period, we will be offering all of our Xbox LIVE members around the world access to a full Xbox LIVE Arcade game that will be available to download free of charge. In the coming weeks we will be sharing the specific details of this offer with you.

Thank you again for helping make Xbox LIVE everything that it is today!

Sincerely,
Marc Whitten

Any word if this is an unpopular arcade game that they're trying to plug, or one of our choice? I'd be happy with just 800 MS points to spend how I want, but as long as their's some element of choice in the arcade game, I'm happy.

No word yet. I think this is their big plan and they are just going to fill in the 'Step 2' details later.

Microsoft giving something free? Okay, that's good(and surprising).

How is that surprising? They've given a lot of stuff away in the marketplace for free! Just hopefully there is no limit to what arcade games can be obtained.

A lot of stuff? Don't you think you're exaggerating a bit there, Dragonite? The only real free things are trailers, that we can see online anyways, demos, which PS3 and PC do also, and a few themes and gamer pictures.

I hope this is something good, like that nice free jetfighter game.

Microsoft really needs to stop getting in situations where they lose to let the players gain. It's going to completely stop the XBox market at some point.

I think they know what they're doing, considering how successful Live is.

This is awesome, btw. I experienced very few issues during the holidays so a free arcade game is fine by me.

If it's another game like Carcassonne, I will be pissed.
