Well, remember this? Or maybe the original NYTimes article? False alarm. No full DS Downloads are coming our way.
Gamasutra has been told by a representative from Nintendo of America that full DS downloads, as stated by the aforementioned New York Times article, will not happen, and the story was incorrect. Instead, the representative clarified that the part of the article in question refers to the Wii's "Everyone's Nintendo" Channel which allows for DS Demo downloads.
Looks like this dream dies for now.
A Nintendo of America has told Gamasutra that an earlier report from the New York Times claiming full DS downloads would be coming from a future Wii channel were incorrect, saying DS demos will be as far as the service will offer.
The article maintained that Reggie Fils-Aime had announced plans for full downloads in a conversation with the Times on future DS and Wii integration, but Nintendo of America has said the story was incorrect.
"Users can download games to play on Wii," the representative said, "and, in the future, the Nintendo DS will be able to receive demo versions of some DS games from Wii, but not the entire game. The demo will be erased once the Nintendo DS is turned off."
Nintendo has already launched its "Everyone's Nintendo" Wii channel in Japan, offering information and streaming videos on upcoming Nintendo titles, as well as DS game demos. No further information on when the service will launch in other territories has yet been made available.

Nintendo always takes small steps with things like these.
great, demos is better than nothing I guess.
They've always been extremely careful of digital distribution due to piracy issues. When will we actually get it? I'm guessing when Nintendo is 100% sure that their games won't be pirated or bootlegged.
I like to take my time in deciding to buy a game after playing it's demo, also taking my time with the demo. Give the demo a few days, see how that goes...but this method's a bit tedious.
Besides, I'm assuming that the demo is stored on the Wii itself after the initial download, so you can easily retrieve it again. So it's not like you have to access the Wii Store all over again.
And it's a bit harder to pirate from temporary media. Not impossible, but harder.
Demoes makes more sense.
