Not known for opening itself to responding to industry rumour, Microsoft has moved to stamp out speculation concerning a new HD-DVD-equipped Xbox 360 ahead of Bill Gates' keynote at CES 2008.

"We have reiterated multiple times since launching the Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player that we have no plans to integrate an HD-DVD player into the Xbox 360," a Microsoft spokesman said in a GameSpot report. "We feel that offering the drive externally is the best way to give consumers the ultimate choice to create their own high-definition experiences."

Well, there goes that rumor...I thought it was kinda far-fetched (though I could see it as the last version released later on in the console's life)...

Woulda annoyed a lot of people who got Elites (and before, Premiums)....Probably would have cost more than a PS3, besides >_>

Would've been a waste anyway, they wouldn't take advantage of the HD-DVD player, so it would have been movie-influenced anyway.

Yeah pretty much stating this on the other one, but if they did it would just screw every 360 owner in the world. Im glad its just a rumor. No need for them to do this now, late in the game.

Maybe if the 360 had been released with an internal hd dvd player hd dvd wouldn't be in trouble now.

It would be a waste for the 360 to have an HD-DVD player anyway since it kinda phails lol.

360? a failure? You're outta your sanity. True. It's not as successful as the Wii, but definitely not a failure
