Battlefield 3 coming this year

A scan of PC Gamer posted on this gaming blog shows that the rumored Battlefield 3 is in development and is expected some time this year. Expect everything from better graphics to more weapons and customization.

PC Gamer writes that BF3 is going to be set modern day, in a fictional war between NATO and the Middle Eastern coalition. There will be persistent stat tracking and new weapons for experienced players.

    So... the basis doesn't vary much at all from what BF2 players already see, except maybe the fog of war will go from 20ft in front of you to something a bit more reasonable and of course some more developed shader methods on things. Stat tracking, weapon upgrades, and a modern day settings have already been established.

    It is good to see they dropped 2142 though for the basis of future games, the amount of awful induced there was too much for me to bear. Here's to hoping that they actually give back control to gamers with jets and helicopters again instead of handicapped hovercrafts.

      Nothing wrong with that. As long as they don't mess with the core of the game, I'd love to see an updated version of BF2.

        My trust in DICE isn't all that high, like you said if they don't mess with the core of the game then it would be great as an updated piece of gaming to really sink into again.

        I just fear that moves in 2142 might end up in 3 and make the fans of 2 suffer needlessly. I don't feel like leveling 20times so I can have a complete kit only to rinse wash repeat.

          Not to mention the most off putting in-game advertising tactics to date. I bet Battlefield 3 will be turn out to be an interactive commercial... where the interaction is you reaching for your credit card.

    Good timing too I just got a new laptop with a 8 series NVIDIA graphics card. This is going to be my first Battlefield game since 1942 and Vietnam.

      I thought the concept of 2142 to be pretty exciting. It was just the few gameplay flaws and let downs that ruined the experience.
