Time to get those Blu-Ray goodies on the road!

StarJet | January 07, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 Playstation Portable
Thought that PSP Movies are dead and gone with the UMD format? Wrong! Sony says that future Blu-Ray movies will have a function to copy the movie to a PSP. Of course, the movie will be of lower quality than the BD, but what else did you expect?
Sony announced at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show that future Blu-ray titles will contain a portable copy of the movie / show embedded on the disc encoded specifically for the PlayStation Portable.

Consumers will able to boot up their PlayStation 3, pop in a Blu-ray disc, then simply transfer the portable copy onto their PS3. From there, PSP owners can beam the portable copy over to their handheld device.

So am I! ^^ That's great, and just in time, too, once I get myself a PSP in the coming months, that is. Great feature, gotta admit.

The first thing that comes to mind is file size.

So let me get this straight. We could rent a BD then copy it to our HDD?? The PSP format will probably be MP4 which the PS3 can also play so what's to stop people without a PSP to just copy the film onto their PS3??

That would be piracy, I believe, but yes. It's possible.

Nice, i hope the quality is top notch because when i used UMD movies on my PSP they look really good and when i try to rip some dvds to the MS the quality just isnt great.

This is a great feature to be honest. Only question is will it take up a lot of memory or not?

I think it will be good but honest opinion as well is on a PSP who is going to notice the difference between normal and Blu-ray on a small screen like a PSP.?? Still a good idea.

Does this just mean that we will be able to play the movie through remote play? Cos if thats the case, it's not really anything special as I would rather just watch it on tv. Unless i've missed something here..

No from what I got you get to save the the movie on the psp.

This is almost just asking for people to pirate movies.

Won't this cause some problems. Still a neat feature though.
