Sony's Nick Sharples has outlined that the 32MB of memory on the original PSP means that it is not able to run Skype, which will soon arrive via a firmware update for the 'Slim & Light' PSP (64MB).

You can't use a memory stick as RAM, when the PSP was built to use memory sticks as storage genius.
