The moment you have all been waiting for, well PS3 owners of course. Sony has just confirmed at the CES 2008 (Consumers Electronic Show) event that the in game XMB (Xross Media Bar) is confirmed to be released later on this year. Even though we all knew it was going to happen sooner or later, it was just a matter of when. When Sony was asked for a specific date, Sony replied that it's true focus at the CES 2008 is hardware, so basically Sony shouldn't even be revealing such information, but I guess Sony was in a good mood at the time.

For people who don't know what the XMB is, it's the main PS3 menu. Many PS3 players want to access this menu while in game to either modify settings, listen to their custom music and to reply or create messages. All this can be done once the XMB is compatible to be used in game, but until then we can only pray to see this feature soon and not late 2008.

Sony’s gaming division might have a small showing at this year’s CES, but that isn’t keep Paul Purdy from dropping some big PS3 news: in-game Xross Media Bar (XMB) access is confirmed for 2008. When pressed for a specific timeframe, the Sony rep simply relayed that Sony’s focus at CES is on hardware.

This will be a great feature. Unfortunately I don't have any friends on the PS3 yet to be messaging anyone. I can't wait for Home to come out then we will all become one BIG happy family!!

What was that comment about playing follow the leader, iLLmatic?

The comment you're referring to was what I said about a company who has console that has been selling well and is in the lead, backtracking on their words and copying the competition. Since this situation is completely different, I don't understand your sarcasm. Gamers have been asking Sony to do this for months now. What do you expect them to do? What I do understand, is that you make a living out of trolling the forums with your little child like poking and smart ass comments. Aren't you tired of yourself yet? I know everyone else got to be.

This works great for me since I'm getting a PS3 later this year. The menu idea sounds great and I seriously cannot wait to plug in my own soundtrack, I've really never been a fan of video game soundtracks (apart from MGS)

Bah, we pretty much KNEW it would be out this year, as Sony has been "Working on it", as they said, so saying it will come out sometime "Later this year" is so vague as to be useless...I HOPE that they'll release it for HOME though...

Does anyone else realize that it's not 'Xross' Media Bar? It's 'Cross'; the X simply symbolizes the word Cross.

I've seen many references to the phrase "Xross Media Bar". Why couldn't Sony call it CMB? The first day I got my PSP and on the manual there is something called the XMB. I was like WTF?

This is hardly news, they haven't even given us a release date just "it'll come out later this year" Like we didn't now that!
