Gates: Xbox 360 soon the most reliable console

mistermostyn | January 10, 2008 | News | XBOX 360
The Red Ring of Death has kicked seven shades out of the reliability of Microsoft's Xbox 360 videogames console in 2007 - but Bill Gates says that's all set to change.
With regard to future reliability, Gates said that Microsoft has seen “incredible reliability on the new work that we’ve done, so our commitment is that it (Xbox 360) will be the most reliable videogame box out there.”

Even with the Red Ring of Death a thing of the past it will take a hell of a lot to convince me.

It'll take a hell of alot more than Bill Gate's claiming that their new work is "incredibly reliable" to convince me that the 360 is the "most reliable" console. I'm sure many other people would agree. The Red Ring of Death isn't going to be easily forgotten. There'll always be a niggling feeling in the back of people's heads wondering if something like that will happen again.

Maybe it's more reliable, but the RRoD is still going to happen to every 360 at some point in their life. It's not a question of if, it's a question of when. New Xbox's may be built to get the RRoD later, but the problem isn't gone.

    @ GG

Very true. Unfortunately, even if the problems are totally eradicated, which I believe they can be, mud sticks.

Incidnia, how can you know that the problem can't be stopped totally?

It can be stopped with my the new boxes since they aren't being rushed in design, but it doesn't change the situation with the existing ones. I think thats what he meant.

I work as a field service/product support rep for an Avionics manufacturing company. There are always going to be failures in electronics. However, it's not always the failures that set the standard in people's minds. It's how the company reacts to them, and what they do for their customers.

MS was too slow, and in denial far too long. They rushed a product out that had a far higher failure rate than was acceptable and people won't forget that anytime soon. I don't think the 360 spent enough time in development and testing.

Not only that, but the RRoD isn't the only technical failure the console has...still, I do like that they are working to fix it...who can say no to three free years of warranty for that issue?

They aren't really as bad as the RRoD, but Wiki breaks them down well: Here, oh wise one.

Nice try stealin' my shit thurr... but it didn't make any sense, at all.

And those issues represent about .000009% of all failures (obvious exaggeration, OMG)... I know for a fact the PS3 has issues that appear at a rate so insignificant they're not even addressed, as does the Wii.

Oh, by the way... there's a "reply" button to each comment that forms a separate tree. GG.

Just because there's a reply button doesn't mean I always have to use it. I didn't choose to use the 'reply' because that second comment was more in general, in case anyone else was curious as to what other problems there are.

You know, Cdemon, you're really judgemental and uptight. I don't understand what you're here to prove...FYI, I'm a 360 fan, I enjoy it more than a PS3 or Wii, it's more suited for me. My PS3's been in storage for quite a while now, while I watch movies and play CoD4 on the 360. Dun Dun Dun moment?

I know those failures aren't common, but you asked what the others were.

Well... hopefully they mean it. Sony, bah, they always make lies. Microsoft, I can at least give them a tad credibility to give them a second chance. Let's see how well they recover from the Ring.
