A website called StreamMyGame has made it possible to play your PC games on your PS3. It's a free service all you need is a high end networked PC and PS3. The game is on your PC and played via your network. StreamMyGame converts it and sends it to the PS3. See the source for complete requirements. Soon they will offer remote game play but that will require large band width.

Minimum for low resolution Streaming
1.5GHz CPU
1GB RAM
DirectX9 graphics card
AGP bus

If you haven't heard of StreamMyGame.com, let us enlighten you: they're a community website that uses a new online technology called Game Streaming. They create "innovative, industry-changing products" for the PC and video game industry. And now, they have announced the release of its free Linux Player, which will let you play any PC game on the PlayStation 3!

This is a free server from StreamMyGame, and it allows PC games to be played remotely by first converting the game's video and audio into a Game Stream. After that's done, they send the data over a home network to a second computer where you can view and play the game with the free StreamMyGame Player. This second computer can be a PC, laptop, PS3 or Linux device, and it doesn't need to have the game installed on it, either. The StreamMyGame Server is available to just about anybody, as it's compatible with Windows XP, Vista and all PC titles based on Microsoft's DirectX8, DirectX9 and DirectX10. Yep, this does include last year's PC big-time award-getter, Crysis. The StreamMyGame Player is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Linux with resolutions that go all the way up to crazy high Super HDTV (3200 x 2400).

"Playing the latest PC game on the PS3 is now a reality at HD resolution and fast frame-rates," said Richard Faria CEO. "I have a PS3 in my living room and PC in my office and my two kids both have old PCs in their bedrooms. Now we can play games anywhere around the home. StreamMyGame's technology networks the power of a main PC so it can be used to play high end games on other PCs, PS3s and Linux devices."

Come March, StreamMyGame will broaden its horizons a bit by enabling games to be played remotely over broadband networks that have "sufficient capacity" (like Verizon's FiOS or British Telecom's FTTP). It's certainly an ambitious idea, so if you want to make your PS3 more capable than ever, check it out.

The system is interesting but it doesn't negate PC requirements entirely.

    From their FAQ:

    Minimum for low resolution Streaming
    1.5GHz CPU
    1GB RAM
    DirectX9 graphics card
    AGP bus

    Recommended for 800x600 resolution Streaming
    2GHz CPU
    1GB RAM
    DirectX9 graphics card
    PCIE Bus

    Recommend for Hi Resolution Streaming
<2GHz CPU Preferably a Dual or Quad core Processor
    2GB RAM
    DirectX9 or DirectX10 graphics card
    PCIE Bus

So if you want to do PC gaming at high quality you still need a high end PC to do it with. You can't just hook up any system and expect it to process via the RSX and Cell on the PS3 with how the software runs.

The description here is a bit misleading, you need at least a more modern 1.5GHz single core cpu (P4, AMD64 754pin) 1GB of DDR or DDR2 and a DX9 card that qualifies for the games you want to play.

So if you want to Stream Crysis in Very High you still need a quad core, multiple GPU's and a load of RAM.

So basically all this does is either:

    a) Stream what you're playing to multiple screens

    or

    b) Let you play the game on a bigger screen

    Big whoop, lol.

I don't how this will work for a lot of PC games... If you're playing a game on the PS3 are you using the controller, or are you still using your keyboard? If you're using the controller then games with multiple button function won't work. (ie: World Of Warcraft) I can see how it might appeal to some people, but I think there are a lot of disadvantages to it.

You're running the game through PS3 Linux be it Ubuntu or Yellow Dog Linux.

As a result you're still using a KB and Mouse for it, some games may allow for controller support but it's not likely.

Basically you just stream the pc game in whatever quality the PC can play it at through the router to your PS3 so you can use a KB an mouse to play it on a TV.

What if you can then stream it to PSP by Remote Play? If that become possible, then Super Sweet!

If the PSP can run Yellow Dog Linux, Ubuntu and have a streaming rate of 2mbps and interface with a keyboard and mouse then there might be some shred of hope. Otherwise it's not likely to happen at all. On top of that you still also need a PC with appropriate hardware for the games you want to play.
