Videogames are again cited following a cruel attack on an 8-week-old beagle puppy - which came about from the attacker experiencing extreme stress after losing his job. The puppy eventually died from sustained injuries.
An article posted this week by the Associated Press outlines how a Bucks County man in Pennsylvania choked an 8-week-old beagle puppy after he found it chewing on cables connected to his videogame console.
Jonathon Allison of Bristol showed considerable remorse after pleading guilty to the charge of cruelty-to-animals, offering that he had loved his young dog and wished now that he could take his actions back.

It won't bring the dog back but it's pretty clear that the man is hurting from what he did. I suppose to get back the wires, you'd have to call up the company?
Anyways, the guy should get life in jail for taking another's life away.
I know he lost his job, but it's still wrong, and so deserves a just punishment.
Video games shouldn't be blamed for this though, he said he was suffering stress.
I don't think "depression" or "stress" is reason enough to kill an animal either. If he had killed a person as a result of his "stress" he would end up in jail. His condition doesn't make killing a dog justifiable either.
Hey, maybe if you lose your job, you should have been out looking for a new one instead of playing video games, you dumb *bleep*. Your dog was trying to help you.
Still doesn't give him any right to choke the pup, though.
He wants to pay for his crime, though, he even attempted suicide because of what he did.
As I said in parenthesis, there are those that do this as their job practically...those are the real sickos. Those are the people that you should truly be mad at, who are of sound mind and well aware of what they are doing.
If he didn't love his dog...after that action, why did he attempt suicide? I would have wanted his punishment to be worse than what he recieved, and it looks like he would have accepted any punishment handed to him, but he was ruled for 100 hours community service and therapy.
The dog survived the attack, but when it's breathing began to lower from the damage he sustained, the Vet put him to sleep. That wasn't made clear enough in the description.
Attack this comment all you like...I'm just dumbfounded at how many want to kill this man when there are those that do this for the hell of it...
On that note, I'd fscking hunt down anybody else that abuse their animals if I had the power, it's not just some guy.
Now if you guys find it ironic that sometimes people care more about the animal than the person themselves, well let's just say that animals usually deserve more sympathy.
He is DIFFERENT from those that do it purposely, people that do this and have no problems in their lives, but make money for their fur coats to go into fashion, and yet what I'm getting is that he's being put down as bad as them...because they are so angered that they lost their sense of logic into asking why?
I understand your position very well, but you need to really understand his. And that is easier said than done, but we should at least try to get his position. Him regretting this does not forgive him for his sin, neither does attempting suicide, won't bring the puppy back, but come on, he's feeling like shit right now, condition so worse that he's been ordered for therapy...
I don't find it ironic at all, Seeker X. I agree that animals deserve more sympathy, they deserve to be treated better.
Just because he is depressed and feels bad about it NOW, that's not enough to make people feel sympathetic towards him. He still killed his pet dog. Strangling an animal is never justified ... ever. And to say that he loves his dog is almost laughable. Boo-hoo if he atempted suicide after realizing he loved his dog. If he loved his dog as much as he claims, then he wouldn't have choked it. Simple as that.
If he had killed a person, this would be a totally different story. People would be wanting him to be jailed for life.

p.s. (to Storm's post below) I've taken psychology courses for the last 4 years, Storm. I spent half a year studying mental disorders specifically. And I still don't consider that a reason for me to feel remotely sorry for him, or to think that he should be any lessly punished. I don't think it's heartless to say that he doesn't love his dog. Many pet owners love their dogs (I love my dog) and would never hurt them - Many mentally disturbed owners love their dogs and would never hurt them. I do not like the idea of him claiming to love his dog as much as any other dog-owner loves their dog. Why? Because he is the reason his dog is dead. End of.
The saying "you don't know what you have until you no longer have it" doesn't usually apply to people who actually kill the thing they miss.
Hurting, killing loved ones, be it human or animal, can come from depression, anger, and other highly emotional issues. It's a bit heartless to say that he didn't love his dog, when you don't even know the guy. Again, he's feeling terrible about this...I suggest Psychology courses. That also helped me to understand the troubled-minded, and what we can do when we aren't 'normal,' what we are capable of, even if we truly love someone.
You're still bringing him down to those sickos level. Yes what he did was wrong, but the difference between him and the sickos is that he DOES feel guilty...he knows it, that's why he needs therapy. Don't you see? He's miserable...he almost killed himself ffs..."you don't know what you have until you no longer have it," ever hear that one? I think the same can be applied here. Detectives dedicate their lives to questions such as, "Why?" and "What?" Why did he do this? What could have caused him to do this? I'm not saying become a detective, but break down why he did this, and not just focus on the conclusion...on the action. Ok, he did this, that's where you end at? No reasons why?
It's fine to speak up about animal cruelty and all, but take it to the Neoseeker forums perhaps? Intellectual Exchanges? This has gotten beyond GameGrep, and your voices can be better heard there.
Suicide is the what people do when things get really bad. His life is obviously taken an extreme turn. So much so that he would eventually try to kill himself. Basically, when your depressed anything and everything gets blown out of proportion. He's probably low on money and looking forward to gaming, probably his only escape from reality, and he can't because of his dog. Anyone would be angry. Naturally he wanted to punish the dog. He went way too far, granted, but it's understandable. Even still it's been taken care of. He's being punished. Under other circumstances I'd be as angry as some of you are now. This just seems like he was unstable and we're lucky he didn't climb a clock tower or go masacre he workmates. Feel bad for the dog though.
@ Storm: I think everyone understands where your coming from, but you can't hide behind a bad back and a lost job causing depression. There are many people out there with problems, some much much worse than the problems he had but they have no right to harm anything either. People can argue that depression leads to this and that, and I'm not saying that it can't be a factor in that, but even still, never ever are you allowed to harm a living thing just because your life sucks and you don't feel good. I can't speak for those who have commented here but at the very least, this is why I can't pity the man that much, and I'd be guessing that something along those lines is stopping others from feeling that sorry for him at all too.
I know, it's wrong to harm others just because you're in a bad position/mood, as these are the same people that can help bring you out of your current stage...but there are those out there would take things so far nonetheless...we know this from history, it's happened in the past. The human mind is an extraordinary thing, can lead to excelling in education to the highest degree, but it can also lead to your downfall if you dwell too much on bad times, depression, like the state this man is in.
