Following a year that left two of its main software hopefuls (Stranglehold & BlackSite) bruised and bleeding after the arrival of a wealth of bigger and better software titles from other publishers, is Midway feeling the pressure?

This week Midway has revealed that a number of staff working out of its Austin studio are to be laid off - in what the company refers to as a strictly routine and minor action based on the completion of a project at the Texan studio.

The staff losses follow hot on the heels of Midway parting company with a pair of senior players, namely executive vice president and CFO Thomas Powell, who is moving on to another company, and also senior vice president Steve Allison, who will be stepping down at the close of March.

Midway's day will come if TNA: Impact! is going to be as big as i think it will be, in the lucretive world of wrestling then they are on the road to success, Impact! could be to Midway what Smackdown was to THQ, those wrestling games put THQ on the map and while they haven't gone on to capitalise on that success publishing crap wrestler after crap wrestler i feel, a more battle hardened Midway could take the success (if it happens) of their new wrestling franchise and run with it, all Midway need is confidence... Their last few games have been tried and tested FPS and TPS, take EA they have shitloads of confidence and it shows they are trying to revolutionise left, right and center they did it with Skate. they did it with Fight Night, they are trying with Fifa... But go back 6 years in the middle of the PS2/Xbox era and EA could not put a foot right, mainly because of lots of bad reviews accross the board knocked their confidence, all Midway need is some confidence and well some money which a big selling franchise could bring.

Well said, Existenz. I hope Midway can focus on a new Mortal Kombat game...perhaps a sequel to Shaolin Monks.

Looking forward to that TNA game as well.

I would love to see a new MK game. And a sequel of SM wouldn't be a bad idea. I just hope there are much more characters to choose from.
