Heard rumours that CryTek's Crysis might come to the PS3? Now it seems to be confirmed by, odd though it may sound, another rumour.
Games Radar states that an insider has said that a PS3 version of Crysis is in development. It also states that technical difficulties prevent an XBOX360 version from being made.

Even before the PC version released, rumours of a PS3 conversion of the stunning Crysis (developed by Far Cry creators Crytek) were rife, and not far off the mark if insiders at the studio are to be believed. The game looks to be a port of the PC original plus some extra modes and features, a kind of Crysis 1.5. Like the PC game you can expect a visual powerhouse; an open-world shooter that begins on a beautiful tropical island before things take a turn for the worse and aliens from a parallel world stake a claim on Earth. Only the mighty Killzone 2 could possibly hold a candle to this shooter. For technical reasons we hear an Xbox 360 version of Crysis isn’t in development. Bet you’re glad you bought a PS3 now, eh?

As someone who doesn't own several super-computers, I'd be more than happy to see this come to the PS3.

Im not arsed if it does come to PS3, its just another shooter, the only thing that was going for it was its graphics, which now has been shitted on quite alot. FFXIII, Just Cause 2 and FarCry 2 and im sure Resistance 2. So yeah, if it does come out for PS3 I will get it, just to me it will be a average shooter...

The graphics blow away the gameplay anyway.

I have a PS3, but from what I heard, It has nice graphics, but it has generic gameplay, for the most part >_>

Still, if I like the gameplay enough, I might look into it >_>

Probably not though, since I have a number of games I want to get, and not enough cash to go around....No cash at all actually, at least not until I get a job V_V

Most likely memory issues, just like they would have to address on the PS3 as well.

By memory I do not mean Blu-Ray vs DVD9 I mean the RAM on the machine, that regardless both systems have to find a way to at least pull 720p with AA.

For the game as it stands to run in 1280x1024 on High resolution settings it occupies 440MB of video memory (720p is 1280x720 so this is about as close as it gets, 1080p would consume 615MB of video memory), this doesn't also include the RAM overhead to run the rest of the game as well. Since these game systems aren't packing 1GB+ in system memory it poses a large problem to port things like this.

Thats the sad thing. The game uses/abuses so much RAM just for the eye candy alone, but the game itself is average at best. The 'extra' work for a port might not even be worth it, especially since they already announced Far Cry 2 for the consoles. I guess it would be a feat in itself just to get Crysis running smoothly on a PS3 though.

I totally Agree with you. Porting a game like this to consoles would be very hard and in most cases the game would suck since the lack of RAM on the machine.
